Shanahan re-signs with Jersey

Quote:
Brendan Shanahan had such a good time in his 3 1/2 months with the Devils last season that hes coming back for more.

The 40-year-old left wing agreed to terms Tuesday and will be in training camp, an NHL source said. The official announcement on the one-year deal could come later today.

Finally.

Good signing, Shanny's still a valuable offensive player.

Parise, Zajac, Langenbrunner
Elias, Roslton, Clarkson
Pandolfo, Zubrus, Shanahan
Leblond, Pelley, Bergfors

???

NJ fans correct me if the line up is wrong.

We're not really sure what the lineup will be, but that's a decent guess. If the season started today my guess at what the lines would be is this:

Parise - Zajac - Langenbrunner
Rolston - Elias - Bergfors
Shanahan - Zubrus - Clarkson
Pandolfo - Pelley - Leblond

I think you'll find that pretty much every Devils fan is happy to see Shanny will be back - he was quite effective for us last year.

Shanahan will be able to remain a goal scoring threat for a few more years(though I don't think he'll play that long). He depends on his shot and his positioning to score goals, two skills that usually haven't diminished among players his age. Plus even at 40 years old he can still play a well rounded physical game. This is a good signing by the Devils and I'm happy Shanny stayed there.

Good for ol' Shanahanadingdong.

I guess it beats playing Halishcuk on the third line.

Id have rather seen him go out on top instead of hanging on as a 3rd liner. More power to him though. The Devils are better off with him back.

Possibly a good mentor for the kids, as long as they don't bring their girlfriends into practice.

No doubt Shanny can still finish and is cagey enough to find openings in close to the net but that last year with the Rangers he was having a hard time keeping up. Can't think two years later it will be any easier. I guess he still wants to play. He is a classy guy so good luck.

Brendan Shanahan returns to Devils

http://njmg.typepad.com/devilsblog/2...-to-terms.html

As usual, the Devils do not release any details about their signings.

Quote:
The 40-year-old unrestricted free agent left wing has agreed to terms and will be ready to go for the start of training camp on Sept. 12, an NHL source said. The sides spent Tuesday finalizing the paperwork and the official announcement could come later today.

Lemaire will be perfect for Shanahan who skates at the same pace forwards and backwards.

A perfect addition for a young bottom 6. He'll also be valuable on our 2nd PP unit and possibly 2nd PK unit as well. I can see Shanahan playing aroud 60 games in the regular season and the other 22 will be split with rookies (Halischuk and PL3).

All in all, this a great news in a "slow" off-season for us Devils fans

A player his age doesn't need to skate like the wind. He's now a "positional" player and knows were to be whitout skating circles for nothing. With that said, I can't wait to see Shanahan and his snipper shot go top shelf against Lundqvist

Not bad. However, Lamoriello has always stated that Bergfors is a skilled forward and to succeed would have to be in the top six. So, if the kid makes the team and the Devils are done adding wingers, I think it looks more like this:

Rolston-Elias-Bergfors
Shanny-Zubrus-Clarkson
Pando-Pelley-?

Shanahan played well, especially defensively, last season. Should be good for 15 goals, solid all-around play, and good leadership throughout the season.
