Shanahan will be able to remain a goal scoring threat for a few more years(though I don't think he'll play that long). He depends on his shot and his positioning to score goals, two skills that usually haven't diminished among players his age. Plus even at 40 years old he can still play a well rounded physical game. This is a good signing by the Devils and I'm happy Shanny stayed there.
No doubt Shanny can still finish and is cagey enough to find openings in close to the net but that last year with the Rangers he was having a hard time keeping up. Can't think two years later it will be any easier. I guess he still wants to play. He is a classy guy so good luck.
As usual, the Devils do not release any details about their signings.
The 40-year-old unrestricted free agent left wing has agreed to terms and will be ready to go for the start of training camp on Sept. 12, an NHL source said. The sides spent Tuesday finalizing the paperwork and the official announcement could come later today.
A perfect addition for a young bottom 6. He'll also be valuable on our 2nd PP unit and possibly 2nd PK unit as well. I can see Shanahan playing aroud 60 games in the regular season and the other 22 will be split with rookies (Halischuk and PL3).
All in all, this a great news in a "slow" off-season for us Devils fans
Lemaire will be perfect for Shanahan who skates at the same pace forwards and backwards.
A player his age doesn't need to skate like the wind. He's now a "positional" player and knows were to be whitout skating circles for nothing. With that said, I can't wait to see Shanahan and his snipper shot go top shelf against Lundqvist
Not bad. However, Lamoriello has always stated that Bergfors is a skilled forward and to succeed would have to be in the top six. So, if the kid makes the team and the Devils are done adding wingers, I think it looks more like this:
