Haha, he was like +11 after his first 8 games for the Marlies.

In the game I caught of him in person, he was certainly a step above the other scrubs they were dressing at that point. I'd have put him 3rd on the depth chart behind Oreskovic and Stralman in that game...

Toronto Marlies pro contract is quite possible?

Doesn't say Leafs, says Toronto.

Joey Ryan is also on an AHL contract and I can see Frogren making it through waivers (if he needs to). That would make 7 D for the Marlies.

Marlies are looking pretty exciting this year, may have to check out a few games.

No elite puck movers (that we know of), but I doubt you can look at that roster and say the AHL team is going to struggle due to their ability to move the puck behind the blueline. You just don't know the players or the system well enough.

most of the guys on that list that I've read are DD type defencemen. Moving the puck I would say isn't their strong point.

Looking forward to seeing how those two develop. IMO Oreskovich is going to be a great bottom pairing D in the NHL, liked what I saw last year. Any work on Holzer?

Haven't heard anything.

Have we ever offered him a contract?

Maybe you shouldn't make a judgement just yet then, since you are relying on comments that could be out of date and don't go into great detail regarding these players ability to move the puck.

Thanks mooseOAK. Don't know much about him other than what I read here.I think I recall Krupp? or another retired defenceman talk about Holzer being a pretty good prospect. If it was Krupp, the discussions were about his kid coming to the AHL, and having the experience coaching Holzer.

Holzer is very highly regarded as a prospect in Germany and I have read that they expect him to be among the best to come out of that country. He was close to coming over this year but it looks like it will be next year and I don't have any proof but think that he was signed two years ago.

Do you know how long we will have his rights, how long he is signed for, or if he has any intention to come to North America?

I thought this was a thread on Josh Engel... most of these questions about Holzer and others have been answered in the prospects tracker thread in case people really want to know what is going on... as per Engel, let's hope his success last year can be replayed this year as well!

I assume that he is on the standard entry level deal but playing in Germany instead of the AHL and everything I have read quotes Holzer as wanting to play in the NHL.
