If Buffalo lands Zherdev, it definitely opens up the door to acquire a puck moving defenseman like Kaberle, however the deal will not include Roy. He is the closest thing Buffalo has to a 1st line center and has great playmaking abilities. One of Pominville or Stafford would be the player coming Toronto's way and additional draft picks/prospects. If any Kaberle deal were to happen, the window of opportunity to complete it is rather small since his no-trade clause kicks in again August 15th.
I don't see why Buffalo has any interest in Zherdev; they got rid of one Russian underachiever in Afinogenov and are now hoping for more from Zherdev? Zherdev is certainly more talented than Afinogenov, but he brings the same amount of inconsistency and lack of effort that Afinogenov did.
