OT: Everyone's favorite hockey film, Slap Shot!

So I'm watching it on DVD right now, and just in the spirit of the slow offseason, everyone post your favorite character in the movie and favorite line. There's so many to chose from but I'm going to go with...

Character: Dave "Killer" Carlson

Line: I'm gonna wiggle it at em you cheap *******. I'm tellin you, you better be prepared cause when I yank it out everybody in that audience with the exception of my wife is gonna be running for the exits.

Lily: What's the story on that dog?
Reggie: That's the dog that saved Charleston from the 1938 flood.
Lily: Well **** him.

Gotta luv the big mean lumberjack Gilmour Tuttle on The Syracuse Bulldogs in the Finals. My father was actually going to play this minor part in the movie - but his work brought him elsewhere. Too bad cuz that would have been cool. This is true...
Here is a recent pic of him where you can still see the resemblance http://images.google.is/imgres?imgur...%3D18%26um%3D1 (scroll down to "En inblick i kändis världen") or see his work here http://www.nygardsphotography.com/

Ref: "I got my eye on the three of you guys. You pull one thing, you're out of this game. I run a clean game here. I have any trouble here, I'll suspend ya."
Hanson: "I'm listening to the ****ing song!"

And also the french Canadian goalie explaining a penalty in hockey:
"You do that, you go to the box, you know. Two minutes, by yourself, you know and you feel shame, you know. And then you get free. "

And the french Canadian goalie again, probably my fav character in the movie:
"I'm tired of it! Puke! Blah! All the time, puke!"
Some teammate: "You're a goalie, you're supposed to be like that."

I always liked Maurice's (Morris?) lines the best:

"Here's to all that gorgeous sn*tch down in FLA!"
then Denis "You make me sick when you speak Maurice"

also, when watching soap operas at the bar, midday- "I told you that c*** was no good"

Dave Hanson was a regular at Notre Dame hockey games the past few years because his son Christian played for the Irish. He was signed after this past season and played a few games for the Leafs this year too. So yea, the son of one of the Hanson brothers in now in the NHL. Just a heads up for those that didn't know.

Great film, cast, soundtrack(the original), director and it always surprises some that it was written by a woman. Nancy Dowd, who's brother Ned was a minor league hockey player, he ended up playing Ogie Oglethorp.

Here's a name for you nostalgia fans: Clarence "Screaming Buffalo" Swamptown. I'll never forget an exclusive interview in which Swamptown revealed that he calls his hockey stick the "Big Tomahawk," and he usually refers to the opposing players as "the little scalps"...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"...Andre "Poodle" Lussier, defense. Andre, as you know, has been living in semi-seclusion in Northern Quebec ever since the unfortunate Denny Pratt tragedy..."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"...And from Mile 40, Saskatchewan, where he now runs a donut shop, number 10, former penalty-minute record holder for the years 1960 to 1968 inclusive, Gilmore Tuttle..."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"...Oh this young man has had a very trying rookie season, with the litigation, the notoriety, his subsequent deportation to Canada and that country's refusal to accept him, well, I guess that's more than most 21-year-olds can handle... Ogie Ogilthorpe!"

He is The One! Ogie Ogelthorpe

For those of you who don't know, this movie is a thinly veiled story based on the 1974-75 Johnstown Jets of the North American Hockey League. Many of the incidents in the movie actually happened. The guy who threw the keys and hit the Hanson (Carlson) brother happened in Utica. The pregame fight happened before a game in Binghamton between the Syracuse Blazers and Broome County Dusters. The Jets were told during the season they would fold unless the won the league championship (they won the championship and played two more years) And teams would routinely load up on goons at the trade deadline. The players in the movie are all from the North American Hockey League, including several of the doubles. Paul Newman's hockey double was Rod Bloomfield, MVP of the league and star of the Broome Dusters. Ned Dowd's sister wrote the screenplay (she previously won an Oscar for a movie called "Coming Home") based on Ned's stories about the league. Ned was very educated (Bowdoin) and a great guy. Sounds a lot like Ned Braden. One night I was doing the PA in Syracuse and Ned skated by during a stoppage and started giving me s*** about how I didn't sound as good as the regular announcer. I was the Asst. GM of the Syracuse Blazers for 2 years and one of my biggest regrets was moving on to Roanoke Valley the season that the movie was filmed.
