Go to ATL. If it is a weekend game, you can tailgate with the 'Nasty Nest' Thats what the tailgaters call themselves. They are very open and a fun crowd. Downtown accomodations can be had for less than 50 bucks at a nice hotel, and it would be walking distance to Philips Arena.
That might be one of those I decide to attend at the last minute. That's pretty much what happened last year. I know it was less than a week before the game when we made the call to go last year, it may have only been 2 or 3 days in advance.
I grew up about 3 hours from Buffalo and I wanted to make that trip in Nov, but there is a home game the night before so getting there might be difficult
[WARNING: WORDS, LOTS OF THEM]
We did manage to see the Canes win one in Toronto last year, which was a welcome change from our previous losses.
I was at the Game in Buffalo and on my way home Sunday Morning while driving towards Toronto (I live way north of Toronto) on the Highway I passed a car with NC Plates and noticed the driver was wearing a Canes Jersey.
It was probably you!!!
Haha, there was a good chance that was us. You probably dont remember, but it was a blue car, and we were riding up the QEW. CANES also has a Hurricanes State-issued plate on the back
I try to take in a few roadies a year at least, and try to go to a "new" place each season. We always go to Atl at least once or twice every year.
So far I've been to NY, Pittsburgh, NJ, Chicago, Dallas, Minnesota, Atlanta, DC, and Tampa. NJ fans were the worst, but I'm sure Philly will have them beat. I'll be at the game on the 31st and I've been warned by everyone not to wear Canes gear!
I love going to Atlanta because its within driving distance, the fans are generally decent, and I like their arena. Plus we usually win when we play down there!
just got tickets to the Blue Jackets/Canes game in Nov. Not much of a road trip since the Blue Jackets are technically the home team for me (hour and a half up the road) but it will be the first Canes game I've seen live since about 2001 or so. I think that was the Ron Francis 500th goal game.
When I went to Minnesota and Pittsburgh, I used the official team ticket page (got a kick out of everyone in Pittsburgh asking "OMG HOW DID YOU GET A TICKET?!?!" "uhh... I went to the website and bought one"). For Washington I used StubHub.
Were you at Game 1 of the ECF in 09? I was there with the wife and two other Caniacs and we got the same question about our tickets... Due to a BADDDDDDDDD mixup in a corporate marketing dept we did not have 4 tickets waiting for us at the gate after arriving from Raleigh that afternoon. Seems DHL had gone on strike or vacation or something in Canada and our tickets were not delivered. We went to the gate at 6:50 PM and bought 4 tickets 12 rows off the ice which did get reimbursed for. There were hundreds of unsold tickets for that game and numerous seats with 4 together which shocked me. This was my first and only Canes Playoff outside of RBC. I have been to many other ponds around the NHL but only have seen the Canes in Wash and Atl. I have friends in Tampa and will prob go there this winter to see the TBL vs Canes.
I may have spoken to you guys before the game outside the gate. There weren't too many Canes fans at that game, and I did talk to a group of I think 4 or so before the game. I was wearing a red Samsonov jersey.

Not too many...That would be an understatement. My wife had a Rosey Jersey and I was wearing my Staal... I counted only 12 other Canes fans. I did get a nice reception outside when I walked up with my Staal Jersey and told the boo birds I was just happy not to be in Philly and I thought no one would notice my Staal wasn't numbered correctly.
CANES and I are confirmed for 1/7 @ Nashville. Southwest has 50 dollar flights direct to Nashville from RDU. If anyone else wants to attempt this, post. We should get a drink or 6 before the game

We already grabbed tickets to the game, we are just doing the quick trip thing, flying in thursday morning and coming back in time for the friday game at the rbc.
I think DH and I will do our first road trip at that Nashville game right after Christmas, combining it with a couple of nights to go to the Opry and visit the honky tonks. Never been to Nashville, but love country music (almost all music, really.) I would think Nashville would be a pretty friendly arena, and maybe Vince Gill wll do the national anthem!!!
Anyone else going to Nashville? I heard there may be a group of folks organizing, but am not sure how many. CANES and I will be sitting right behind Mo in the first row, so we should get some airtime. Will be wearing this:

for those who don't know me.
I sure wish I was! If I would have known earlier that school wouldn't have started yet this week, I would have booked. Now airfare is expensive and it looks like Amtrak doesn't even go into Nashville. Hence, I will be watching and embracing the suck from home.
Let's just hope we get at least a goal or two for you to celebrate! The worst part about going to the Devils game earlier this season was getting shut out. Not much fun traveling to an away game when you get skunked!
Anyways, have a blast and be sure to tell us all about it!
If you don't want to see a Carolina loss on a long road trip, come up to Albany and watch the future Canes play - I'd recommend a Saturday game against Adirondack... always a better crowd and usually a better game when the Phantoms are in town.
