Manny Fernandez offered a deal by Montreal?

Allegedly a 2-way deal.
As per Eric Engels and CKAC.

If we're gonna trade Halak, I think Fernandez is a more than capable back-up for Price. I'd feel a lot safer with Manny over Sanford.

If he signs with us, I expect Halak to be leaving because we don't need that many goalies.

Exciting stuff.

cool, but hope it is not for Cheechoo... We have an abundance of offensive winger already here (Cammy, Kostsys, Lats, Pax, Gio) or almost ready (D'ags). Let's bring in Marleau and hope for the best!

Link or it didn't happen
While in the throws of the dog days of summer speculation runs wild.

I'll wait for this to happen first.
One would assume that the Halak deal would have been announced before this one.

Unless bob's really soured on the Kostitsyn brothers, there's no real need for Cheechoo here.

The fact its a two way deal is kinda interesting. I know they signed Sanford for Hamilton, but who is the other goalie in Hamilton?

Cederick "The Entertainer" Desjardins.

I'm not sure if that's his nickname, but I say it is now.

I'd just call him Eric Desjardins.

Remember kids, SJ doesn't want or need Plec.....they are so deep in center Marleau plays on the wing.

I only really got to see Halak play against Boston but I thought he was pretty good. Manny was hurt in January and never seemed to have fully recovered and finished the season very poorly. Unless Halak only does well against Boston and awful elsewhere, I don't get why Montreal would give up Halak to sign a risk in Fernandez.

I guess they'll trade Halak. Halak imo, is the real deal.

Didn't play too much the last couple of years because of health, but when healthy he is a capable #1 goalie but 2nd string at this stage would be ideal for his health as everyday play with knee and back issues would be hard to play half or more games for a team anymore.

The last thing the Habs need is to sign a quebecker goalie because the first bad game by Price or decent game by the back up, most of quebec including the media will clamor load and clear we want Price out. This is just what Price does not need. I think Gainey is smart enough to stay away from such a predicament

I doubt Bob Gainey doesn't make a move to better his hockey team because of what some idiotic fans who don't understand hockey or even worse the media thinks or would think.

I think we are safe from any goalie controversy with Price and Fernandez, Halak and Price is just another issue for the Habs to have to deal with in the media if they are kept together.
