Seems like a Burke move. He signs Monster so Pogge isn't really in their long term plans.

He moves him to a team that might give him an opportunity down the road.

Doesn't ask for very much in return.

If Hiller leaves as UFA next year, we at least have a future backup goalie... not to mention a great insurance policy this year.

Interesting point. That makes me feel a little better.

But 2 things give me pause. 1) Giguere was traded for a 2nd. Not a 6th (with an extremely small possibility of a 3rd). Kiprusoff went for a 2nd also around that time. Obviously Giguere was still much more highly thought of than Pogge now. 2) The guy who was instrumental in Giguere's turnaround (and of all the guys you mentioned as being successes), Allaire, is gone now. Who knows if our new goalie coach can do as well. I'm rather underwhelmed with Peeters' track record in Edmonton, but we shall see.

Oh, and too bad we don't have Iowa anymore. Because Justin*Pogge would have been perfect for the C*H*O*P*S.

Any idea where Pogge might be playing this season, considering Anaheim's lack of an AHL affiliate?

Right now the plan is "we'll figure something out", according to David McNab:

On where Pogge will play in the minors
We’re still working on exactly where he’ll be playing. But we’re comfortable that we’ll figure something out and he’ll play plenty.

I'd be shocked/horrified if Pogge was playing the Marlies. He had to go to give Reimer a shot (who won the playoff mvp as a rookie in the ECHL last season). Good luck with Pogge, I figured with us getting Allaire we'd keep him, so either Pogge wore out his welcome or Allaire didn't like him either....Good luck with him.
