Heatley to Buffalo discussions

There has been quite a bit of discussion on both the Sabres and Sens' boards about this possibility, based on a post from someone (not Eklund) who may or may not have any credibility as a Senators insider.....so....is it do-able? What's it gonna take?

From a Buffalo perspective don't even say the words 'Tyler Myers'. Ain't gonna happen. Also, highly unlikely that Derek Roy will be included, give the Sabres serious lack of skill at center.

What about something involving Stafford, Pominville and Weber as a start....

Flame away

I think the Sabres can put a good package together but two things I dont see happening are, Heatley actually wanting to go to Buffalo or Bryan Murray wanting to trade him to a division rival.

I may or may not believe you need a link for it to be a rumor.

I would do

Myers
Pominville
Paille

for

Heatley

Myers just is not striking me right. He got burned again at the Canadian scrimmage for their national team. He has size but that's about it. I would give him up for heatley.

Ottawa would probably do a Pominville + Stafford package. It doesn't replace Heatley's production, but you get more scoring depth, and I think it's better than Cogliano, Penner, and Smid. At this point, if Heatley wants to go anywhere for a relatively fair package, they should just do the deal. I really don't think keeping him is a good idea, especially for locker room purposes.

What kind of money is being thrown out on that deal?

I actually think they're very similar. Anything from Senschirp to me is just speculation.

I would be shocked if the Sens traded Heatley within the division. I would cry if we gave up Myers. As good as he is, Heatley would not make the Sabres a contender, and we should not give up our top prospect for him.

Vanek for Heatley?

I don't want to see it. I love Vanek in Buffalo.

I believe everyone has a right to their opinion, but everytime Myers name comes up you lay into him and I cannot get the basis for your opinion.

I have been following him quite a bit and he excels at many aspects of the game. To say he has size and that is it, is just are really questionable opinon.

He has size. Correct

He is a very good skater, and has exceptional skating for his size (speed and quickness)

He has a cannon for a shot (needs to work on accuracy IMO)

His positioning and awareness are very good

He is very vocal on the ice and seems to have natural leadership abilities

Not soft by any means

Loves to jump into the play and has a good outlet pass

I just don't understand the rationale for your opinion on Myers

Sabres will not part with Myers. And yes, a trade within the division is certainly not ideal. But if it's their only quality option, Murray may be willing to consider it.
I fully disagree that Heatley would not make Buffalo a contender.....

Pominville's got kind of a large contract at 5.3 per for another five years. Stafford's still a RFA if I'm not mistaken.

no doubt the Sabres have enough young assets to deal for him but can they afford him?

Funny I was thinking the same thing. The money is basically a wash. Heatley has a bit more upside but Vanek is also a bit younger and sans bad attitude.

Buffalo was the only city to be ranked lower than Edmonton when NHL players were polled about which NHL city is the least desirable. If he didn't waive to go to Edmonton, he probably won't waive for Buffalo.

This team is a couple steps away from contending again. Heatley alone won't change that. He would help, but we'd still be a 6-8th seed, and with his salary and the potential cost of giving up Myers, I don't think it's worth it.

Pominville and Tallinder/Lydman would have to be moved. Probably with Stafford and a pick for Heatley and a fringe forward (Schubert?) to even out roster space.

Link?? A true hockey player would come here any day before Phoenix or the teams in Florida. We have the best fan base in the US.

I doubt Ottawa would trade Heatley within the division without taking the other team's best prospect.
