2006 goalie class

I was checking out the 06 class and I noticed how strong the goalie class was in that year.

Jonathan Bernier (11th overall, Kings)
Riku Helenius (15th overall, Lightning)
Simeon (or w/e it is now) Varlamov (23rd overall, Caps)
Leland Irving (26th overall, Flames)
Michael Neuvirth (34th overall, Caps)
Jhonas Enroth (46th overall, Sabres)
Steve Mason (69th overall, Blue Jackets)
Jeff Zatkoff (74th overall, Kings)
Daniel Larsson (92nd overall, Red Wings)
James Reimer (99th overall, Maple Leafs)
Mark Dekanich (146th overall, Preds)

All seem to have some NHL potential, with other goalies from that class having a shot at redeeming themselves.

Bernier, Varlamov, Irving, Enroth and Mason all seem destined to be starters at one point in their careers, with Varlamov and Mason being already 2 of the young studs at the position.

Without assuming too much, could this class have the potential to be amongst the best if not the best goalie class ever?

wayyyyyyyyyy to early to tell with Goaltenders. Just look at Steve Mason, he could be putting numbers up the polar opposite next season. Goalies are very fragile. Look at any team.

Yes. Funny thing is a late third round pick will be the best of the class like 84(Roy). But this year is much better goalie wise

I agree that the potential in this class is something else and could prove to be a VERY solid goalie draft. It is a bit early and goaltenders mature later, but I think most of those have NHL potential.

it is way to early to tellhow good this goaltending class will be but the potential for a very good class is there. Alot of good young goalies here.

I hope to come back to this thread 2-3 years from now, and laugh. I wouldn't be surprised if most of these guys were irrelevant by then.

Leaf's James Reimer was the ECHL playoffs MVP last season

Fail

If you read the topic before you troll, you'll notice he's mentioned in the original post. Reading the first post in a thread... weird idea I know.

Too early. Hell, two years ago, 2004's goalie class was hyped to be downright 03-like.

Al Montoya
Marek Schwarz
Devan Dubnyk
Cory Schneider
Thomas Greiss
Karri Ramo
Pekka Rinne
Justin Pogge
Jeff Glass
Dan LaCosta

I guess that's fair, but none of them had done as well as Mason and Varlamov at that point.
