Vancouver - Nashville

To Vancouver: Dan Hamhuis

To Nashville: Mason Raymond

Hamhuis is a pending UFA who may not be in Nashville's future plans, given their riches on defense. Raymond is a good young speedy forward who's been gaining experience at the NHL level and looked to begin putting it all together in the playoffs. At the very worst he's an option for the 3rd line and the PK, with the potential to be a solid 2nd liner.

UFA or not, Raymond isn't enough to get Hamhuis, and Nashville doesn't have anyone that could step in and replace Hamhuis's minutes, anyway.

Not enough for Hamhuis, and he's has the most experience on d which we need right now.

perhaps if nashville was out of the playoffs and couldn't resign Hamhuis? Otherwise I'd say it's underpayment. That said I could see Nashville making it this year.

What the...? No. We're not trading Hamhuis. If we had to ice three rookies on defense, not only would we miss the playoffs but Trotz would likely have one conniption fit every three games, at minimum.

You don't think that's going to happen anyways?

Hamhuis has significantly higher value than Mason Raymond. If Hamhuis gets traded, it will be at the deadline if Nashville is out of it and can't re-sign him. At that point, the return would be much higher than this.

With our current roster, we at least have a fighting chance.

He won't be moved right away with the youth on Nashville's blue line, and I would not want to pay the sort of price he'd fetch at the deadline. He's a likely target for Vancouver next off-season though.

The problem is that the only depth Nashville has after their current line of 7 defensemen is Wade Belak and Jon Blum. After that it get's pretty sparse. If Nashville is WAY out of the playoffs they will move Hamhuis and Ellis for picks and prospects.

ROFL.

So you are asking for one of Canadas top young dman (invited to the 2010 olympic tryouts) for a guy who's an energy player where there are 200+ people like him in the AHL?

You would be lucky to deal Hodgson for Hamhuis at this point.

What? We're freeing up Raymond's spot for Grabner. I'd be content with signing Hamhuis as a free agent next year as well. This is overpayment.

Whoa now let's not go overboard here, in no way does Hamhuis get Hodgson in a trade if Toronto cannot get him for Kaberle. Besides, Vancouver does not need Hamhuis right now, they need Hodgson more. Van city can get around with what they have now, maybe add M.A-Bergeron for free and they would be set this year.

I think the value would be somewhere BETWEEN these two works of art.

I would LOVE to see Hamhuis wearing the Orca, but I don't see it happening this year.

I could see Gillis making a push for him next year though as a UFA, if he diesn't re-up with the Preds before then, as Hamhuis IS a BC Boy... and a great pick for the Canucks top-4 moving forward.

My 2 cents anyway...

Hamihius is a stud it would take an overpayment for Nashville to consider trading him and Sergi Shirikov can take Raymonds spot

I wish we could get him for Raymond haha..

I do however think Raymond, Grabner and a conditional 1st is a bit of an overpayment; if Raymond is just thought of as a 3rd line energy guy in Nashville than we might as well keep him.

I'd think Grabner, Ellington, and the cond. 1st would be alright for both sides.

I would probably consider a Hansen or Raymond for Fransen trade. It does not look like Hamhuis will be traded at least for this year as they will definitely need his experience.

Hamhuis is going to attend Team Canadas olympic summer camp, do you really think we can get a player with that stature for Mason Raymond?

Horrible deal for Nashville. Raymond isn't that good, and he does not have a high ceiling.

You can try and get Hamhuis on the UFA market. It'll cost you more money than normal. So far Gillis has been unsuccessful on the UFA market so unless your 30+ Gillis wont overpay for your services, so good luck getting him on the UFA market.

We need a bottom-pairing guy, preferably someone who can handle top-4 minutes when Salo or someone else goes down. Hamhuis is a top-4 defenseman easily, so he's not a guy we desperately need or anything IMO. However, if Gillis can get him for any of Raymond/Hansen/Grabner + a pick or something, then that would obviously be a great deal to make. I think one of Nashville's other young defenseman would probably be a better target however.
