Could TOR be the 3rd team in a SJ - OTT trade?

OTT - TOR
Heatly, Ruttu for Kaberle, Blake, Tlusty
TOR - SJS
Heatly, 2nd - Michalek, L. Couture, 1st

Fire away.

You are silly to think Ottawa even thinks this over.

It's been made pretty clear that Toronto is not one of Heatley's desired destinations. I highly doubt he would waive his NMC AGAIN to go to Toronto once he's dealt to a team than is high on his go-list. The proposed deal makes no sense.

I'd say your right about the deal not happening, but in the original proposal has Heatley going from Ott to Tor to SJ, final stop SJ.

Great deal for Sharks. We'd have to dump salary somewhere, which I believe is the point of the toronto part.

To Ott:
Michalek
Kaberle
Tlusty

To SJ:
Heatley
Campoli

To Tor:
Couture
Ehrhoff
Kelly
SJ 1st

Think that pretty much works cap wise, seems a bit more fair. I think Toronto might complain a bit, but they get some quality depth.

Toronto passes on this deal, its not horrible...but the quality coming back doesn't equal Tlusty and Kaberle. Replace Tlusty with prospect Dale Mitchell and a pick and this might happen.

That makes sense, I kind of felt Ottowa was getting too much anyway.

To Ott:
Michalek
Kaberle
Mitchell
Tor 2nd

To SJ:
Heatley
Campoli

To Tor:
Couture
Ehrhoff
Kelly
SJ 1st

Better?

they needed a 3rd team because OTT didnt want cheechoo, i would image him being in the deal somehow to ease SJ some cap hit

I tried, cap wise I couldn't make it work for TO. SJ just had to dump Cheechoo somewhere else later.

So the Sharks give up Michalek, Mitchell, Couture, Ehrhoff, and a 1st for Heatley and Campoli? I'm all for trying to make Heatley fit, but holy cow that is just flat out vast overpayment. I think the Sharks give up 2 of Ehrhoff, Cheechoo, Vlasic (hope not) Michalek as the centerpieces of a deal for Heatley.

No, Mitchell is the Tor prospect, not our Mitchell.

Sharks give up Michalek, Ehrhoff, 1st and Couture. Steep, but Campoli is a good young D to replace Ehrhoff's spot and keep salary down. I was going to put Lee in instead, but the Ottowa folks never seem to like that much.

First of all, I believe it's Dale Mitchell from Toronto.

Michalek, Ehrhoff, Couture and 1st for Heatley and Campoli. Now, I'd change that first to second pick. Other than that, I think it's fair.

Campoli can replace Ehrhoff's offensive production, in my opinion...but he's weaker defensively.

Ouch, if that is true I'd pass. But I don't think Heatley is the answer in San Jose in the first place so I may be biased.

Replace Ehrhoff with the 1st or Couture so it works out salary-wise for the Sharks. Toronto probably needs Ehrhoff to do this deal because they give up some defensemen and needs a puck-mover back.

Sharks give up way too much here. Take out the SJ 1st or Couture.

I'm not seeing why the Sens do this. Most Sens fans don't want any of the Leaf players... ANY.

Assuming Toronto was involved in a three way, it would be something like this:

To Toronto:
Jonathan Cheechoo (San Jose)
Ilya Zubov (Ottawa)
1st Round Pick (San Jose)
2nd Round Pick (Ottawa)

To Ottawa:
Kaberle (Toronto)
Ehroff (San Jose)
Mihalek (San Jose)

To San Jose:
Dany Heatley
Alexander Picard

-=-=-

Toronto Gives Up:
Kaberle, in exchange for Cheechoo, Zubov (prospect), 1st, 2nd

Ottawa Gives Up:
Heatley, Zubov, Picard, 2nd, in exchange for Kaberle, Mihalek, Erhoff

San Jose Gives Up:
Cheechoo, Mihalek, Ehroff, 1st, in exchange for Heatley, Picard

This is basically what San Jose was giving up anyway.

You can't be the 3rd team in a deal that can't happen.

I dont see toronto giving up Tlusty just yet. Tlusty has a lot to prove and could be a 18-24 goal scorer next year and blossom into a good player. Other then that I like the trade. Toronto gets a decent defencemen in Erhoff who can also move the puck, a good prospect with Couture, a first rounder and a fourth liner although I would rather see Stralberg/Bozak/Stefanovich play on the fourth line over Kelly.

In a lot of these proposals, Ottawa would be happier trading straight up with San Jose, esp if michalek, ehroff, vlasic, etc, are being offered.

I hope Burke would just hang-up the phone and trade Kaberle for a package later on.

The return Ottawa is seeking for Heatley - a player who has quit TWICE on his team and may be amongst the worst players defensively in the league - is more outrageous than any package proposed by Leaf fans peddling Kaberle. Heatley's cap hit in this market is too high and his character is as suspect.

SJ would be crazy to part with that package for such a soft player. Similar to the proposed package from Edmonton, if Ottawa want to truly make this deal they they will have to eat a bad contract.
