Throw Down Some offers for Kovy

I have a feeling he's out of ATL after this season, and this is coming from a phan. Throw down some realistic and plausible offers for one of the most dynamic scorers in the game

I was thinking these are suitable

to ATL: Hickey/Johnson and Schenn

to ATL: Thornton and Couture

to ATL: Hodgson and some other dudez

to ATL: Kessel, salary dump

I dont know, throw some out there

He's an UFA, so unless he's guaranteed signing an extension, you'll never touch any of these offers.

You don't have a feeling he is out of Atlanta. You just want to make proposals!

so Was Hossa and we got a 1st rounder, 2 roster players, and a high end prospect

Kovy would be a huge upgrade to any teams playoff roster and a few teams on the cusp will succumb to outside demands to field a playoff team and will trade for the Russian LWer.

Another Atlanta fan's perspective...

Just painful. No more Kovy proposals until the trade deadline (IF he hasn't signed by then)

Just avoid this board for the next 7 months, because it will only get worse.

the cbc hot stove prefix is for information that comes from CBC's Hot Stove, its an intermission talk show, not a generic "hot stove" as in he's a hot topic and deserves the prefix. I could be wrong, perhaps Kovy is on CBC's Hot Stove right now, but Im guessing he isnt.

You make that deal sound a lot better then it was.

You got the 29th overall pick (about as late a first rounder you can get), two 30 to 40ish point roster players, and a decent prospect. I wouldn't call Angelo Esposito high end.

All said and done, I think that return was quite mediocre for a high end talent like Hossa.

Kovy just said in the Russian press that he wants to wait until later in the year to see how Atlanta is going and then re-sign. Waddell has hinted that he refuses to go into camp with Kovy un-signed and risk another Hossa situation.

Kovy is probably thinking more about the Olympics than Atlanta right now. They ought to trade him.

From the Habs

A. Kostitsyn
S. Kostitsyn
Matt D'Agostini
1 of Josh Gorges , Yannick Weber or David Fischer
1st in 2010
2nd in 2011

Not sure if it would cut it or not but that's about the max i would pay for an impending UFA. It may even be an overpayment but i never really had the eye to gauge the value of players in a trade so.

He is not out of Atlanta. He practically is Atlanta. Waddell is going to do whatever it takes to keep Ilya.

DW has already backed off that comment, and instead has implied he is more inclined to handle Ilya the way that the Panthers handled Jay Bo.

San Jose would love to have him, but with Thornton. He's also only got one year on his contract left, so the return is not going to be as great.

You can not expect a franchise player in return for a franchise player, it's almost unheard of. From the Shark's, if NTC's were not an issue, I would expect something like:

To ATL: Marleau, Couture, conditional 1st if he resigns.
To SJ: Kovy

To ATL: Nabakov, Ehrhoff, conditional 1st
To SJ: Kovy

If he is somehow signed and traded (I don't see that as possible, if he signs, he isn't going to be traded...)

To ATL: Marleau, Michalek, Ehrhoff, 1st
To SJ: Kovy, warm body or two

I think his value is higher once he's agreed to a contract level.

I read the first post. Read the name of the OP. My thoughts quickly turned to this:

So far, I'm not disappointed.

If you trade Kovy, you trade him out West.

SJ: Thornton or Marleau plus a pick or role player...plus a conditional first if he re-signs.

LA: Frolov...plus Handsuz to make it cap friendly for the Kings. LA gets Kovalchuk plus Oystrick or Slater and a pick. Atlanta still gets a conditional first for re-sigining.

Or:

Chicago: Kovalchuk, a bottle of vodka, and an expired cabbie's license
Atlanta: Patrick Kane, and the Dime twins from the Q.
