Well Ryan Potulny who was one of the top goal scorers in the AHL apparently only gets $104k in the AHL in his new deal. So I guess Stone at 75k is pretty fair. It could be a little higher.

I think Brule has some kind of assurance he will be given a good shot at the NHL this season. So his camp was probably more worried about what he would make in the big league than the minors.

Just guesses on my part of course.

Yeah sometimes Tencer does not get enough credit. He was throwing some hard questions at Tambo in that interview. Even after he started sounding annoyed. He also tried to grill him about not improving the team in the face off department or the PK. But Tambellini did not really answer the question on that one.

Stauffer on the other hand was handing him sweet soft balls questions.

That's kind of funny. I love Tencer. Not sure why a lot of people rag on him in here.

I thought Potulny was getting $140K or $125K or something like that?

That sounds about right to me. If anything maybe the low AHL salary was put in place as a motivator for Jill Bear.

Agreed. Whomever doesn't think Smid has made massive strives in just the last year obviously didn't watch him play much last season. He's turning himself into a defensive stalwart type defenseman, and with his strength and better positioning (which comes with age and experience) he could be an absolute beast, perhaps in the mold of a player Regehr, but faster (not saying he will be as good, but will probably be a similar-ish type player). That's definitely a type of defenseman this team could use; please let's keep him and let him develop, for God's sake. Defenseman usually take a while--let's not dish him or write him off just as he's on the cusp of showing he could be an impact player.

Just Schremp left. Hope he takes note of Brule's contract and is willing to sign a two-way.

I am pretty certain Gregor wrote 104k on his blog. RFA's seem to not have a lot of leverage even at the AHL level on their salary.

It is the UFA AHL guys that get the bigger money. Such as Arsene got 170k and Chris Minard got 275k.

Wow, that's a nice AHL paycheck. One of the biggest I've heard of.

First of all, thinking he is a 2nd pairing guy would be insane.

Second... you think it's okay to debate if he's a 7th guy, but think it's a joke to think he's a borderline NHL player? Do you even understand that it's basically the same thing.

A 7th on the depth chart blueliner wouldn't be in the line up.

Yep. That is what it costs to get the top AHL UFA free agents. You have to burn a 2-way contract off your 50 list and pay up.

Apparently last off-season the Oil did not want to go too much over the 150k mark and they ended up striking out on all the big AHL free agents. This year they ponied up.

Now on straight AHL only minor league deals apparently the max that a guy can be paid is 100k.

A 7th on a damn good team like Detroit. Or do you prefer Strudwick to Smid defensively? Strudwick is a guy that I consider a borderline NHLer, not Smid.

Fully agree. As most fans who readily watch Oiler games would agree, Strudwick is far more of a disaster on the ice than Smid. I am actually quite comfortable with Ladi out there.

I respectfully diagree. I've grown quite fond up Strudwick's hand gernade passes into groups of the opposing team's players. Holding the blue line is also over rated.

Falling down is really just in-game shot-blocking practice.

You really think he is half as good as Staios?

I know, I know, not a fair comparison. Or maybe it is.

Right on. Tambo needed a good signing to keep the wolves at bay.

I think $1.3 for two years would be a good deal. I also like Brule at $800K if that holds true as well.

Smid's deal could turn out to be a gem of a contract for the Oilers.

Good solid deal. How many rfa years does he have after this contract is done?

Trade/Dump Nilsson in the minors and sign Malholtra. That would be a great deal for this club.
