Halpern Update

Sorry to start a new thread, but I couldn't figure out where to post this among your current active threads.

Anyway, here's a link to a blog update about Jeff Halpern by the Wash Post Caps beat writer. Thought some TBL fans might be interested in reading about Halpern's off-season, his thoughts about the Lightning's moves this summer, etc.

"Halpern didn't mention second overall pick Victor Hedman. But I will. Take a long look at the Lightning's revamped roster. On paper, the Bolts look good enough to perhaps to challenge the two-time division champ Caps."

" He's entering the final year of the four-year, $8 million contract that Dallas used to lure him away in 2006 after seven seasons with his hometown team. Halpern knows he needs a solid year -- the type he had in 2007-08 when he totaled 20 goals and 22 assists for the Stars and Lightning -- to earn another lucrative multi-year contract."

Hope both commnets become true.

Probably. A right handed, defensive 3rd line center who can chip in 15-20 goals should have pretty good value to a playoff team.

What about 2nd liners

ok halpern is a good 20 goal 3rd liner

and they bolts have about a half dozen other good 3rd liners

but after stamkos, lecavalier,St.louis, they don't have any true 2nd liners except ryan malone

whats going to happen if the team can get above average performance from 1 of their grinders and find 1 more true scorer for the 2nd line...they should be as good as their defense / goaltending can get

they already have a rock solid top 8 on Defense
walker-smaby(ok maybe the 4th duo could use some work)

but a strong showing from the goaltending will bring this team to the minimum to be a top 8 team in eastern conf wins...question is will that be enough as some other teams will do better in the pts category

coaching and health will be key...but they better find at least 1 or 2 strong fits on the 2nd line opposite stamkos
