Did Aaron Ward convince him to come? We really raked in the former Bruins.

I am QUITE pleased.

This is awesome news. We're really going to have an elite 4th line this year. Very happy about this signing and what a great price.

The guy still is outstanding on the PK and another good veteran presence. It's a place-holder deal obviously with the one-year term but a great signing overall. Caner, Guerzy and a couple of others should take a bow on calling this one a while back.

My only regrets are having to hear Billy Idol's Rebel Yell over the loudspeakers, hearing Tripp Tracy references, and seeing the lame Rebel Yelle signs in the stands that seem to be inevitable. Maybe his agent will start printing up T-shirts.

Why are people always going on about calling signings? We needed a 4th line center, Yelle is a very good one and thusly was a possibility for filling the role.

Love the signing. Love the price. May not have been my first choice but he was high up on the list and you can't do better for that kind of money.

WAY TO GO JR!

Woohooo......great price especially if he stays healthy....gotta love a 4th line center that can check a top center, block shots, and win faceoffs at a good clip.

Kostopoulos-Yelle-Walker...............Thank you thank you JR

YES! perfect fit for our 4th line. The guy can still play and he's just flat out a winner. The presence of a guy like this in our locker room can not be underestimated.

First real 4th line we've had since "The Lawfirm" in 2006.

I think you hit the nail on the head as far as I am concerned when you mention locker room presence. There were a few options for a 4th line center that would have given us a real 4th line, but from things I've read/heard about Yelle, I think he'll be a great fit.

Seems to signal that the team isn't confident that Sutter isn't ready for prime time yet. But yeah, Yelle is a definite upgrade over Sutter.

Albany is going to have some crazy-good talent.

I'm not sure that is the case. I look at it more as Sutter will benefit more from playing top minutes in the AHL than by playing 4th line in the NHL (as we have Staal, Brindy, Cullen).

My liking for Yelle has been a long time coming. Always liked the guy in Colorado and Calgary. The way he performed in Boston proved he can still be an asset. I absolutely love this deal.

Excellent price. Excellent player for the role.

Coaching staff retained, Ruutu locked up, Cole signed at a reduced salary, LaRose and Jokinen retained, additions of Ward, Kostopoulos, Alberts & Yelle.

Jim Rutherford, you sir get an A+ from me .

I'll give him an A-. I agree with your comments above, but I think he could have handled the Babchuk situation better. Not that I think Babchuk should be re-signed by the Canes, but I think the way he handled it decreased his chance of getting any decent return.

Overall though, very satisfied with the off-season moves.

While I think Sutter played well in a 4th line role when healthy last year, I am thrilled he's locked into Albany for more ice time and centering good talent at that level for this coming season. This signing should help Sutter's development in the long run.

I liked the idea of Malhotra in this spot, but given his desire for at least twice as much money and a 3rd line spot, this is a great move.

I thought Yelle was going to be too expensive for our 4th line. It's great to see that he decided to come here. Excited for the new season even more now. Gritty penalty killer, too.

Another interesting wrinkle, well not interesting but interesting to me, is that the Hurricanes website has Zach Boychuk as having changed his number from 23 to 11 after Williams was traded. Yelle wore 11 from 2003-2008 with Calgary, but switched to 18 last year in Boston. I wonder if Boychuk keeps the number or lets Yelle have it if he even wants it.

I like this signing...

I am so pumped up.

The reczone master schedule shows that some sort of "Hurricanes Skate" sessions start on August 24th at 10AM.

Too bad i'll be out of town until Sep. 12th to watch new team getting together.

BTW, I saw Aaron Ward in Cary Ice house last week. Looks like he has a little one who is signed in Mice on Ice classes.

Oh, I also saw Coach Lavi at Cary Ice house last week. It was 7:30 AM and i was dropping my son at the hockey camp and PL was on ice alone. I waved him and he waved back. Don't know what he was doing there.

Though a year late, he definitely gets credit for creating that bigger, tougher 4th line promised for this past year.

I not totally wild about the reconfigured D which is why I'd give him the same A- you did. I do disagree though that the handling of Babchuk has caused his value to go down. His play hasn't be criticized and even though the headlock he's been put in is common knowledge it still leaves the Canes holding the cards in any situation.
