Grachev expectations

Hello Ranger fans,

I've got Grachev in my keeper league and was wondering if I should keep him. What are your thoughts on his chances of making the team this year and what kind of numbers do you think he'll top out at?

Any input would be appreciated.

He'll be vying for a spot on our 3rd line, he's competing against newly acquired Enver Lisin...

Hard to say how he'll look in camp at this point. He could blow people away with his play or he could look like he needs more development time & seasoning in the AHL.

I'd be very surprised if he is with the Rangers this season.

Slim chance he makes the team out of camp, but who knows. If he plays in Hartford, he'll probably see some time in NY as the season progresses, though.

I am one of his biggest fans (look at my avatar), but I doubt he cracks the team to start. Maybe a midseason callup.

This is what I think. Injuries could score him a spot, but our team has been one of the best in the league at staying healthy since the lockout, I presume thanks at least in part to the quality training staff.

I would say Lisin is his competition but given that even he acknowledged needing another year in juniors, I think we should expect him back in Brampton for another year. Hopefully he'll net 120 points this year. Any idea who his linemates will be? Both Duschene and Hodgson are probably gone.

He will NOT be in Brampton.

Why would he go there?

He will be in Hartford.

gawd i hope not.

hartford is my guess. he needs to compete against men. once he does that and shows his skills at the ahl level, i expect him to be called up for a look see.

its up to him though. kinda like what callahan did. hell need to stand out.

if evgeny scores goals, hell get some attention and hell get a call.

and i do not believe hes competing with enver lisin at all. lisin is going to play a big part on this team this year. his skills are world class and he is exactly what this team needs now. speed and offense.

I don't see a return to Brampton either.

Physically mature enough and talented enough to handle the jump to the AHL.

Additionally if Anisimov doesn't make the team out of camp, getting a jump on the chemistry for those two players would greatly benefit both players and the Organization.

Plus, if he continues to light the lamp in Hartford, he's a phone call from the parent club.

His Junior career is over....and that's not a bad thing.

I think he will WOW everyone in camp but still not be brought up. They want to bring him along slowly.

somewhat concerned with the ongoing injury thing with him...hopefully it's nothing serious and not related to the concussion reports from the end of last year. Seems more likely he might have just pulled something with all the skating that went on at the prospect camp

I think he will have a decent year in Hartford. Probably between 50-60 pts. I think he might start slowly in HFD as he adjusts but picks up with a very strong second half.

I think he has an outside shot at making the Rangers though I wouldn't bet a lot of money on it. 90 % chance he'll start out in Hartford. His chances of being a callup sometime during the year are going to count a lot on how he produces in the AHL. It may also depend on injuries and there might well be more wear and tear this year with the more condensed Olympic year schedule. Personally I like to see young players get a cup of coffee. It's good motivation for them and gives them a more 'see it for yourself' of an idea of what things they need to improve on the most. So beyond whether or not he makes the team I'd like to see him get a couple games this year anyway.

Well, he's only 19. Age isn't why he is eligible for the AHL. He is eligible because he was not playing in the CHL at the time we drafted him. Brampton didn't draft him until after we drafted him, so the 4 years/20 yo rule doesn't apply.

Honestly I hope we dont see him with Rangers this season. He's probably a longshot to make the team out of the camp. Plus there's no need to rush him. Let him spend another season in minors and then we'll see him up for good next year...

I kinda hope he goes back to Brampton solely because living in Buffalo, I would have a chance to see him play in Ontario....

My sentiments exactly sir. I had plans to see him in a game against Niagara last year but they fell through

But on a serious note for Grachev's development he should been in Hartford. If he wears a Rangers jersey outside of camp/pre-season I'll be absolutely shocked.

He will be in Hartford. I'd say he could go 30/30 in the AHL this year playing on the top 2 lines. He should be one of the 1st call ups depending if he plays well if there is an injury to a NYR.

There's practically a 0% chance he'll make the NHL. The only way he'd make it is if Lisin totally blows and he takes his spot on the 3rd line.

I believe he can score at least 70 points in his rookie season. It's our best draft pick since the King. If you re-do draft '08, he's easily 1st round pick.
