Leblanc and Kristo at WJC Camp

Just wondering what people think of our only Team Canada invite, Louis Leblanc's chances are to make the team... Here's the list of forwards invited to Team Canada

Patrice Cormier NJD08
Stefan Della Rovere WAS08
Jordan Eberle EDM08
Cody Hodgson VAN08
Evander Kane ATL09
John Tavares NYI09

Luke Adam BUF08
Gabriel Bourque NSH09
Josh Brittain ANA08
Jordan Caron BOS09
Joe Colborne BOS08
Philippe Cornet EDM08
Matt Duchene COL09
Cody Eakin WAS09
Scott Glennie DAL09
Taylor Hall TOR10
Adam Henrique NJD09
Nazem Kadri TOR09
Zack Kassian BUF09
Brandon Kozun LAK09
Louis Leblanc MTL09
Brandon McMillan ANA08
Greg Nemisz CAL08
Ryan O'Reilly COL09
Brayden Schenn LAK09
Kelsey Tessier COL08

Bold=Returning players

I figure Tavares will be playing with the Isles leaving Hodgson, Schenn, Kane, Hall, Duchene and Eberle as locks (6) and then Kadri, Glennie, Kassian, as well as returners Della Rovere and Cormier are probables (5)

That makes 11 forwards (Possibly 9 since Duchene and Kadri might make their respective teams) so what are Leblanc chances to make one of the final spots/unseat one of these players. I figure he'll be battling Nemisz and Caron for the last spot/to sneak onto the roster

And I think Hodgson has a great chance to make the Canucks as he almost made them last year. That leaves 2 additional spots that should be open. Didn't Leblanc have really good chemistry with Matt Duchene and Taylor Hall in the past?

I think they are pretty good...

Guys like Tavares, Hodgson and Duchene should be in the NHL. Patrice Cormier, Evender Kane, Nazem Kadri and Braydon Schenn could also make their team. That leaves many spots open for other players. I'm also not 100% sure Della Rovere is a lock to make the team. He wasn't that good last year and he took many stupid penalties. Because he has experience, he has a good chance, but still not that sure.

LeBlanc can also play in any role...that's why he should have an edge over guys like Cornet...and even Caron.

Team Canada also have to think about their future so it might be a good thing to bring him in right away (if he has a decent camp)...

Duchene has a good chance to crack the Avs - Hodgson as well with Vancouver.

What does Canada carry - 12 or 13 forwards? I'm a huge fan of Della-Rovere and like what he brings but I'm not sure he'll crack the squad this year. He was kind of disappointing last WJC.

I think the odds are good. Team Canada really likes Leblanc. I remember reading that Team Canada talked with a lot of NHL teams about eligible players and that all they did was praise him.

EDIT: I can't find the article anywhere, but I remember Timmins said that he was afraid Anaheim or Buffalo would pick him as they usually put a lot of weight on what Team Canada says.

I hope he makes it. It'll be hard to see him play in Harvard.

I hope Stefan Della Rovere is not a lock and isn't Kozun from LA?

Leblanc played really well in the U-18s so I think he'll be a lock for the WJC.

This is assuming that Hodgson makes his NHL club, right?

If he doesn't it gets a lot more interesting for Leblanc.

I would be curious to know if they ever did it before...because he was really bad last year. I think he'll have to earn it...

I don't believe they are that good actually. Though I never thought Kristo would have made team USA last year either. But I have the feeling that he will have to destroy everybody for Team Canada to disregard the fact that he's starting his season way later than everybody else. And needless to say that the competition is tough. And I hope that there's nothing in relation to the hit he took at the dev. camp that can make him be either a little tentative or couldn't push as hard as he could.

Olivier Michaud was the backup after we signed him, and then the next year he either wasn't invited or got cut.

Personally I think he should make the team. Then again, the same was said for esposito for two years

I have my doubts. Hopefully Tavares, Hodgson, Duchene, Kane, and Kadri make their teams to facilitate the issue.

Leland Irving also backed up Carey Price a few years ago and then got cut the next year when Steve Mason and Jonathan Bernier were selected.

Having said that, I think Della Rovere will make it. He's a year more mature and it's always good to have someone who plays on the edge.
