You can probably blame O'Byrne for taking a giant dump after getting a 3 year deal for like 40 games of NHL experience for all the 1 year deals to the kids (Chips, Stew and now D'Ago) who haven't proven much in the NHL.

Latendresse they made him a 2 year offer, but ultimately went for 1.

The last thing I want to see is another Michael Ryder situation where we keep giving him one year deals until he is a UFA

You beat me to the punch.

Having said that, glad to have D'Agostini under contract for camp.

All these guys getting 1 year deals will still remain RFA's.

So the point of doing it is it is they are no risk contracts. These players should not just be handed multi year contracts, they need to EARN it. This is their opportunity.

I believe it helps players get to UFA faster.

it seems he is giving himself cap flexibility for next year and this will be an evaluation year for all rfa's aka make or break because next year skost and price will be getting a raise and cap may fall!

and all players will still have value whether they play good or bad because they will be an rfa!

It serves neither party to sign guys who will be RFAs for several more years for longer.

We're signing them to 1 year deals because they'll get traded and come back to us the year after.

He's 22, he's still a whopping 5 years away from UFA.
