Good to hear. Is it not a very common thing for a player as young as OEL to get the alternate captaincy?

A rather interesting interview with Ekman-Larsson that might be of interest to Phoenix-fans: Article & Google Translate

In short, the article 'In Lidstrom's Footsteps' tells of OEL's development from being a relative unknown to a #6 draft pick pretty much within a year. It also mentions that he has yet to meet Gretzky and (somewhat to my surprise, but this could be old news to people here) that Phoenix did not contact him in any way before the draft.

As for those attempting to read the 'translated' article, it should be mentioned that the Swedish 'back' which is used for defensemen also means 'hill'. Which means, for example, that the 'experienced hill in January Huokko' in fact refers to the experienced Finnish d-man Jan Huokko, who started last season by sitting out on a contract dispute (leaving room for OEL), only to return later making Huokko and OEL Leksand's first pairing. Finally the interview also touches upon OEL's wish to remain in Leksand for at least the time being, rather than moving on to another Swedish (SEL) club ('premier league' refers to SEL).

Mckeens on Goncharov

Picked up their magazine.

Ranked him 38th best prospect (Excluding goalies)
OEL was 6th best

Long scouting report, ending with them comparing him to a Gonchar-Malakhov hybird in the making. So sick.

I see Lucas Bloodoff, Evan's older brother is at rookie camp on a PTO. Maybe drafting the younger brother was a 2 for 1 deal.

Yeah it's a great achievement, but it's temporary only as Konstantin Korneev was away wit hthe national team.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson finished the 4-nations U20 tournament at the top of both defensemen and Team Sweden overall scoring. He had 4(2g+2a) points in 3 games.

Sportsnet's got a piece on Jared Staal.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2009/...jared_coyotes/

5 year time frame to be in the NHL - I guess that would fit the definition of a project.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson's Leksands IF played their first regular season match yesterday. OEL had 1 g (the 2-2 equalizer) in a 3-2 win and finished +1.

In Russia, Maxim Goncharov has 2 (0+2) points in 3 matches, while being +3 and with an average ice time of 18:15 (link).

Some thoughts on Tim Billingsley from Friday...

He's going to have to play a lot better than that if he wants to earn a contract from Phoenix. All last year, Billingsley struggled, failing to show the level of potential he did in his first two seasons. I'm sure the Majors expected him to right his ship, but if this game is any indication, he's going to have another long year. Not the biggest defender, Billingsley was once a physical defender. Now, he seems passive and unwilling to engage physically. I saw him win maybe one or two battles along the boards the entire night. He's also careless with the puck, giving it away on several occasions due to poor reads. He's a good skater and he shows glimpses of a greater capability, but he really needs to get his act together.

I guess hockeysfuture.com thinks there are sixty better prospects than Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/article..._fall20092650/

...HAHA! They so just plain forgot about him.

Psssst... the list is only for prospects 26-50. They haven't come out with 1-25 yet.

Somehow I doubt they're going to have him ranked above Evander Kane and Brayden Schenn. He didn't crack their top sixty(there were ten HMs and he wasn't one of them). HF forgot about him. Simple as that.

I'd be shocked if they didn't have OEL higher than Schenn/Kane just because his upside is that much higher than those guys. The other guys went higher only because they were pretty close to sure things. Its a top prospects list, not next to step into the nhl.

If Erik Karlsson is on the list then OEL is higher on the list.

Think you're wrong. If you look at his profile they grade him an 8.5. Not one of the defenders in 26-50 grade above 8.0. And Kane is an 8.0, Schenn is 7.5.

He'll be on the list.

Jared Staal had a goal and two assists and was named the first star of the game as the Sudbury Wolves defeated the Barrie Colts 4-3 yesterday. Staal now has 1g and 4 a for 5 points in 3gp on the season so far.

OEL will definitely be on the list. Somewhere between 18 and 25 I'd presume.

OEL at #17.

I guess Goncharov didn't make the list.
