I think given his lateral movement, he'd be a decent soccer goalie...

Streit was playing pro in the top Swiss league at 18, so I doubt he had just picked up skates that year.

Fact is, in North America, if you're not serious about hockey by 12, you have no chance. The route to the CHL starts shortly after that. I suppose a late bloomer might pick it up in high school then go the college route, but even then, at best the kid is going to be 14/15 and I doubt many of those guys make the NHL.
