i think its fair, but I dont like the thought of Bernier moving to a Western Conference Team. Obviously a bigger forward would have to be included otherwise Edmonton would never do it. But I think Vancouver says no, we need Bernier's physical toughness.

Pass.

The Oilers already have a better/younger version of Raymond in Cogliano, and have no need in another small forward with questionable consistency.

Bernier is a player who in my opinion has leveled out as the player he's going to be. A 30 point guy with some size.

Neither of these guys are going to bump anyone out of the Oilers top 6, and neither are worth giving up a top 4 d-man capable of 45 points.

I wouldn't do it, Gilbert is too overpaid.

No quality for quantity trades to Edmonton, thanks. If anything, they need to get rid of some contracts up front, not add any. Not to mention none of those players are worth Gilbert, nor are they anything the Oilers might actually need.

no way either side does a deal like that with each other--

I think the oilers/nucks have done three trades in 30 years

Moe Lemay for Raimo Summanen
Roman Oksiuta for Jiri Slegr
and one other one

Ron Chipperfeild in a three way with Quebec

no way the two teams hook up on a deal where it would actually affect the top two lines

4M is too much for a 26 year old signed until 2014 that just put up 45 points, plays on the top pairing, powerplay, PK and was a +6 last season?

You probably like Mitchell and Salo at 3.5M though. Am I right?

Bernier has only played one season with the Canucks. Power forwards take longer to develop. I don't want the Canucks to get rid of Bernier that quickly.

Don't like anybody in the package. Don't see anything in Bernier and they have a guy who is and will be a level higher than Raymond - Cogliano.

Oilers get burned here.

i don't think so. Gilbert makes 4,000,000 Salo and Michell make 3,500,000 i would much rather have a 45 point 26 year old defenceman thats making 500,000 then any off those two

Oilers don't do it. Gilbert is a good #3 defenceman capable of putting up 40+ points. Only getting paid 4m too which is pretty good value for a guy like him. The Oilers would be stupid to give him up for two 3rd liners and a mid-pick.

Gilbert makes 4 m for 5 years. He'd be the bigest cap hit on defence and 4th largest contract on the team.

please tell me that is sarcasm. PLEASE.

Gilbert is only 26, has hit 40 points in both of his full nhl seasons, can QB a PP, PKs, a plus player on a non-playoff team, hits..... big.... honestly his 4M makes most of our Dmen (except maybe Edler) look seriously overpaid.

I agree with souray and visnovsky getting old i see greb and gilbert taking 1 and 2 , and they r capable to do so.........we are not trading our future # 2 guy for 3rd round spare players

No thanks. Gilbert has too much upside to give up on just for a lesser version of Cogs and an inconsistent forward (although I do like what Bernier brings).

Nah, Gilbert's not overpaid. Right now he's probably a bit below market value for a defenseman of his caliber, K-Lowe is going to look like a genious in a few years with that signing.

At the bottom of the Main part of Trade Rumors and Free Agent talk you should see the box that says Start new Thread or something like that.

Vancouver fans again, massively overvaluing their players. Honestly, you guys are the worst at this.

That's the only intangable he doesn't have much of.. he's been known to be a bit soft but will dish it out once and a while.

Oh and he had 33 points in his first season not 40 but this year he really stepped up.

He did not hit as much last season because for the latter half he was playing with a really bad back, which forced him to miss the Worlds Championships

AS for the OP offer - Not a chance. Makes zero sense for the Oilers.

Gilberts trade value of HF gets pissed on more often than the toilet seats at a football game.

Except Mitchell >>>>>> Gilbert.

I'd take Gilbert over Salo though.
