Team USA Coach Ron Wilson on Quick

Quote:
Wilson was also quick to note that Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Quick could surprise a lot of people this season.

"Jonathan is an up-and-comer and those who have watched him play know how unbelievable a goalie he is," he said.

Nice.

I think he'll be great for us this season, and since we actually have a goalie pipeline now, he will be pushed to excel.

I love it. Here is hoping that Quick is ready for the challenge. I hope his experience with team USA gives him a huge confidence boost.

2 years ago he was kind of almost an afterthought, if I remember correctly, and look at him now...

My memory is really fuzzy on it, but I remember Bernier pushing past Quick even while he was in juniors, and Quick seemed to be less talked about until it was he who got the call-up

Well 2 years ago at this time he was rated #15 among Kings prospects, lower than Zatkoff.

Sounds good but the puns have to stop, if Jim can't stop with the puns then one of him or quick has to go.

It's awesome to hear Burke talk about Brown and Quick.

Burke said Brown is a pain to play against...He loves guys like Kesler, Backus and Brown for the bottom 6 forwards b/c they are physical and can move up to the top 6 and are all tough and competitive....

Just goes to show you have to take these rankings with a grain of salt. HF staff does their best to see everyone as much as possible but it is what it is. Zatkoff was on a better college team, had better numbers and therefore got more hype if I remember correctly.

Quick was on a bad team but he put up really good numbers. I've been high on him since he was drafted with those GAUDY high school numbers and the description of his play while Zatkoff has always bored me and I've never thought of him as an NHL goaltender.

If you guys couldn't get excited about Quick's potential during his first short stint then I don't know what to say. Sure he got shellacked a few times, much like Bernier, but he also made some amazing saves on some world-class players: the glove save against Buffalo and a breakaway against Havlat immediately spring to mind.

Of course Bernier pushed past him immediately. He was the highest rated goalie in his draft year and then had the big juniors run. You will still have the majority of posters rank Bernier ahead of Quick as well.

Quick will go nowhere. Because he was a Taylor pick and it is a known fact that Dave Taylor had no idea how to draft NHL caliber players.

I remember seeing Purcell, Boyle, and Quick playing against each other in a college game like two years ago. I knew then Quick had the talent to get where he is today.

Its pretty cool seeing Burke give praise to Brown and Quick. I hope Quick can prove this season that he's a legitimate #1 goaltender.

I thought Quick's only game was a complete destroying of Buffalo at Staples like 9-1 or something. Better than Adam hauser did the year before in his only NHL appearance when they dropped 10 or so on us in Buffalo.

Good praise for Quick and all, but realistically, it is going to take an injury to get on the team and play.

I don't think he needs that though. Just the experience and the practices and everything can only further his development. He was rooming with Tim Thomas in Chicago and apparently was picking the brains of both Miller and Thomas.
