Burke takes notice of team culture change!

Good article with comments from burkie on Kadri's insistance that he wants to be playing for the leafs this year from training camp on. Seems from statement by a vet that it is a nervous group who aren't to sure about making the team, and are taking the warning from Wilson like pros. Interesting read.

"Fans ask me on the street: 'Who's going to score the goals?' It's a legitimate question," Burke said. "Last year, we were 10th in the league and I believe you're entitled to some internal improvement. (Mikhail) Grabovski should be better. (John) Mitchell should be better. (Matt) Stajan should be better. (Niklas) Hagman scored 20 goals and missed 17 games. I don't think it's unrealistic that if Nik stays healthy, he can score 25, maybe 30."
Ugotmebeef, what do you have to say about that? .

haha i actually read the sun this morning and there was an article about the teams work ethic this offseason making reference to the fact that apparently last year at this time at most you would see 5 of the guys in the weight room compared to this offseason where apparently there were 28.

anyways, i think this is once again just hype. news is getting boring 'round toronto with the jays not playing so hot anymore and the argos not even showing up so far this season. anything to have another page in the paper.

although if this is true, nice to see some guys are really pushing to make this team.

Slam posts links to the Sun's articles.

I find it very interesting that 28 guys were in the weightroom this year opposed to 5 the previous summer.

I think Kadri and Schenn are going to give us some nice character/leadership down the road here. I can't be anything but impressed every time i read articles about Kadri. He's mature beyond his years, and has his heart in the right place.

I think he will be getting the same long look Schenner got last season because of the character he has shown in a short time. I hope he comes into camp and rattles a few chains.

5 last year... that's kind of funny... although, i think a lot of guys stay out of toronto in the summer but that is another thing the organization is trying to change, they want players working out together in the summer and staying in the city..

Funny you should mention that, because at times he's seemed pretty immature (Dangle interview with giant hat, pie in the face (of Ellis?) at WJC camp), but other times he's shown that he's got his head firmly on his shoulders. Not that I'm complaining about him messing around, he's only the same as nearly every kid his age. I like that kind of character, a bit like Stefan Legein.

Personally I would rather have a 30 goal scorer who gives 110% then a floater who scores 40. The floaters always disappear when it's crunch time.

Don't confuse playful with immature. Two drastically different things.

This is good for the World.

Burke is all over the place by the way... with team U.S.A, with the Leafs, that draft thang.. TV, doing thangs and moving thangs. This is also good for the World. I love life.

I'm sipping some green tea right now by the way. It's good for me mane.

I'm guessing you mean things like *****ing and moaning if he gets demoted? I Yeah you're right, I can't see him doing things like that.

I noticed this Burke quote from the article verses battles for the center position this year..

Quote:
"You look at the centre position. You got Mitchell, you've got Stajan, you've got Primeau, you've got (Rickard) Wallin, you've got Grabovski. That, you're going to have to sort out. You look at the list of centres, it means someone is going to be sitting next to me (in the press box) on opening night."
Doesn't leave the impression that Tyler Bozak is seriously being considered for a center spot at this point entering camp..

Burke named 5 centers above and said one of those might be in the pressbox with him, implying the 4 other spots will be the remaining ones listed.

With Wallin likely the 3rd line checking center, and Primeau that big physical 4th line center in Burke's top 6 bottom 6 group build.. With Grabovski resigned to a new 3 year deal he is likely to be one of the centers in the top 6 .. That leaves Mitchell competing with Stajan for that other spot..IMO

Agreed. If that trade allowed us to dump a bit of salary the other way then fine otherwise I wasn't a fan of the move. The list of floaters this year on the free agent market was incredible.
