We can also demote a few players to save cap space. Sending Finger, MVR, Stempniak, etc.. down will save some money and not have a dramatic impact on the team.
Two guys on our bottom pairing and a winger on our third line, get rid of them and we save.. $8.9 million against the cap. Fletcher came in to clean up this mess, add in Tucker's $1M and all he did was leave Burke a $10 million hole.
i thought we had more than 2 million. i heard we had at least 6 million.
More like 5.7 million according to the cap thread. And there will definitely be a couple bodies moved out so I would think they could take on a $6 million contract without sending anyone down and still have some daylight.
what should they do between now and training camp with that 2 mil
should we sign a player and give him 3 mil plus
who would you sign?
should we be patient and wait to take advantage of a team in cap trouble etc
I think that the cap-space that is currently available should be saved so that when roster players get injured and call-ups are required, the space will be there.
There is no real need for Burke to be spending every single penny's-worth of cap-space this year anyway. Besides, I don't think the Leafs have any open contract slots as it is. And, in order to open up more contract slots and cap-space, bodies will have to be removed one way or another.
In any event, Burke needs to be very careful in his management of the cap-space, especilly if he wants to "buy draft picks" again.
