Jeremy Morin went off last night against the Erie Otters. Scored his 26, 27, and 28th goals of the season as well as engaged in a bout of gentlemen's fisticuffs. Missed his howe-trick by an assist
Watched Morin play the last two nights...and evidently picked a good two games to watch. I can't remember if he has 6 or 7 or 8 points, so I'll just say he scored "a lot".
First off, unless he completely ignores his skating and doesn't progress at all, you've got a bloody steal on your hands. Let me sum it up: my Leafs held the 50th pick last year, and the entire time I was hoping we'd trade up for Morin based on sheer reputation as a raw sniper with hands. This year, we get Paradis in a trade, who went almost 20 picks before Morin, and isn't even half the talent.
Morin isn't a terrible skater, he just doesn't have any extra gear, and will have trouble keeping up with the rush at the pro level...but I'd expect him to improve, as it is his major weakness and will be worked on. His shot is his obvious trump card, so I'll pass that over...it's ridiculous. His hands surprised me; he's good in close and pulled a filthy dangle last night on the D-man then scored on the play. When he gets his blood up he'll hit and is fairly good at it, and though he's no defensive specialist (as most high end talents aren't at that age) he's benefited from playing with Skinner, in that his high energy play infects Morin at times to backcheck.
Simply put, I'd have killed to have Burke trade up last year and grab him...and I'd probably take Morin over any player taken after the 20th pick last year...as it stands now. After another year or two, with even a moderate level of dedication on his part, Morin will become one hell of an offensive player at the pro level.
Zach Redmond had a heck of a game last night for Ferris State vs. Michigan.
With around 3 minutes left he got called for a penalty(the announcers thought it was a weak call), Michigan scored on the PP to tie the game up.
Then on the PP with about 1 minute left he gets the game winning PP goal to win the game.
Strong on the PK, strong on the PP. He also had a nice rush into the zone 5 on 5 that led to him shooting one off the post. He mans the right side point on the PP.
Thoughts on Eric O'Dell from tonight against Barrie.
In some ways, I kind of feel bad for Eric O'Dell. He's clearly Sudbury's best offensive player, and defense's realize this. He doesn't really get a lot of room to work out there as teams constantly seem to be double teaming him whenever he touches the puck. He's a high class offensive player and when he gets the room to work, he produces. If he were on another team with a more offensive system and a better supporting cast of players, I think we'd definitely be talking about him as a top 10 scoring player in this league. Scored Sudbury's only goal tonight after finding himself open in front of the net for a tap in goal off a feed from John Kurtz behind the net.

I'm on board with most of the applause but Danick gives me pause. He is playing in a scorer's league as a 4th year guy so the points are a bit modest. Unless, of course, you're applauding the PIMs indicating you appreciate more grit in the system. He's also a +8 so I guess I'm hoping he can be another pesty check liner. Klingberg/Cormier/Paquette? Two Francophiles and a Swede? We'll have our own 30 years war line
Paquette is definitely a sandpaper guy that pops in a few goals, not the other way around.
We have a pretty great collection of muckers, grinders, and pests in our system. If they all pan out we could be a real pain in the ass to play against. We probably still wouldn't win much but it would be fun to watch.

In a lot of ways, he reminds me of former Oshawa winger Brett MacLean, who despite not being the world's greatest skater, was elusive and slippery in the offensive zone and had a outstanding ability to get shots off in traffic and while in motion. MacLean has done very well for himself so far in his professional career so I'd expect Morin to follow a similar path.

as someone who has not seen a lot of the kid live, what would you expect to be a realistic goal total for him when he hits his prime? or is this too hard to measure this early on.

He has the hands, shot, and goal scoring instincts of someone who can be a 30-40 NHL goal scorer. At this point, I think it's too early to tell if he'll be able to take full advantage of that. It all depends on how well his elusiveness transitions to the professional level. Getting open in the OHL is a lot easier than getting open in the NHL.

I was just catching up on the Wolves and saw that they are now in first place in the west (sorry if I'm late to the party, but I thought they weren't doing so well)!
Couple of stats that stood out:
Ivan Vishnevskiy: 3 GP / 3 Assists /+6 Good Start!!
Peter Mannino is 17-3 with a 1.76 GAA and a .940 SP in 22 Games
I also noticed that Postma is now listed at 6' 3 190. I might be wrong, but I could swear he was listed closer to 170 at the start of the year.
Finally...huge props to Don Lever! Looks like he's got our kids (and old farts) headed in the right direction!
Marquee star Ilya Kovalchuk: gone. Projected franchise goaltender Kari Lehtonen: dumped. In the Thrashers organization it looks a little brighter, as Atlanta has talent in the pipeline. LW Jeremy Morin, late of the USDT and now making a run at 50 goals with Kitchener of the OHL, looks like a steal at No. 45 last season. The Thrashers have a couple of Gs in the O (Ed DiPasquale and Chris Carozzi) but Windsor-bound Campbell would be an upgrade or maybe a catalyst to internal competition.
So you actually have to pay to see something as profoundly moronic as the Thrashers taking a goalie in the first round of the NHL Draft.
You know people talk about Eklund being a rip off, ESPN Insider is the biggest pile of garbage I have ever seen. Once they just posted some stuff off Spectors Hockey...and all he does is collect stuff from newspapers and media sources around North America.
Does Atlanta still own Niclas Lucenius` rights or have they expired?
He is having very good year in finnish SM-liiga and I think it woul be worth to consider bringing him over to play in AHL.
