Wow, no idea why Jonas Enlund wasn't retained. Must have rubbed someone the wrong way, he was awesome last season in the Finnish big leagues

He wanted to go to the KHL. I remember reading about it in March I think that it was pretty much a set thing he was going there.

Morin, yes. Holzapfel, no.

Holzapfel played checking line center for Chicago last season and his production dropped from the previous year. He needs a big year next year like Esposito.

I doubt if he rubbed anyone the wrong way. His character and work ethic are his biggest strengths. I'd imagine his size, skating ability, and skill level were just deemed not good enough for the NHL level. It might sound a bit ironic, but playing with Jori Lehtera may also figured against him - as some may feel his numbers are a bit inflated.

Tappara's second round loss in the playoffs probably also had some influence on the Thrashers brass.

Tanner Lane; really excited about this kid, from the look of it he put up more points than 1st round draft pick Nick Bjugstad. I don't really know Minnesota Highschool hockey, so perhaps he played in a lower division? Regardless, I think we have a huge steal here.

Great update by Viv on Cormier. Looks like it's headed to court on Monday:

Quote:
Ive talked about it a lot, enough, Cormier said. I dont really want to dwell on that. There is court coming up on Monday. Its in the past. The toughest part for me was not playing and not being able to help my team. First and foremost, Im glad the guy is fine now.
Quote:
Cormier was asked if he would rather play limited time with the Thrashers next season or gain experience playing more minutes in the AHL. The answer was easy.

As a young kid, you always dream of playing in the NHL, he said. So here, 100 percent.

I did some reading on Minnesota high school hockey boards and the consensus was that the competition Lane faced was a complete joke. Detroit Lakes is in one of the worst class and sections in the state.

Supposedly he is mulling whether to play in the USHL or back in high school for his senior year. If he chooses the latter, I will really have to question his motivation and competitiveness, not to mention our wisdom in drafting him.

All that said, I hope he is a diamond in the rough.

where is the Ma ****in hype fo JST? have y'all seen the highlights of his goal today? Incredible, everyone is knocking him off as a bottom 6 guy but from what I've seen of him he looks like he has the skillset to contribute in the top 6. Real impressed with this dude and has killed it in all the 4 v4 scrimmages so far.

Here is a feature with Alex Kangas and how he hates North Dakota. There's also some of him getting scored on. The second goal was a bit sloppy.

Some OHL news for you guys -- Cody Sol was traded from Saginaw to Kitchener yesterday, and Julian Melchiori has chosen to play in Kitchener instead of UMass Lowell this year.

So Sol and Melchiori on the same team, too bad we traded Morin.

Nice.

I might be able to watch Melchiori play this year. ESPN covers college hockey, but it's a given that UMassL was not going to get much time on the show.

The Chicago Wolves have signed defenseman Dave Phillips.

The 22-year-old defenseman made his North American hockey debut last season, when he appeared in 52 games with American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs, notching six assists and 52 penalty minutes. He also competed in six ECHL outings with the Toledo Walleye, tallying two points (G, A) and two penalty minutes.
