The Stone Roses \ The Stone Roses - 5 (absolutely loved it)
Phallus Dei \ Amon Duul II - 5

Restless \ Faye Wong - 5
I usually hate Chinese music, but I keep coming back to this one. If you loved the carefree mood of watching Faye Wong prance around in Chungking Express, this should give a similar feeling-- too bad there isn't anything else in her discography nearly as good, it feels like perfectly good talent wasted (she's a huge star over there though, so one man's opinion) by industry crooning pressure/commercialism-- God-dammit, Hong Kong.

In A Silent Way \ Miles Davis - 5
Face to Face \ The Kinks - 5

Roseland NYC \ Portishead - 4.5
Substance \ Joy Division - 4.5
The Bends \ Radiohead - 4.5 (liked it alot more this time for some reason)
Yeti \ Amon Duul II - 4.5
Songs for Distingué Lovers \ Billie Holiday - 4
Heaven Up Here \ Echo and the Bunnymen - 4
Hail to the Thief \ Radiohead - 4
Head Over Heels \ Cocteau Twins - 3.5
Plastic Ono Band \ John Lennon - 3.5
King of the Delta Blues \ Robert Johnson - 3.5
All Things Must Pass \ George Harrison - 3.5
Frank Black \ Frank Black - 3.5
Wowee Zowee \ Pavement - 3.5
VU \ Velvet Underground - 3.5
Imagine \ John Lennon - 3
Beggers Banquet \ Rolling Stones - 3
Second Coming \ The Stone Roses - 3
Terror Twilight \ Pavement - 3
Brighten the Corners \ Pavement - 3
No Need to Argue \ The Cranberries - 2.5 (The Cranberries are a weird one for me-- When I haven't heard them in a while, I suddenly want to go through all their stuff again, but I always end up getting nothing out of that process other than their one or two hits-- and after a while, even those hits feel a little gimmicky and stale. This is completely baseless, but the lyrics really don't do it for me, either)

Nice late night rock album. I never tire of listening to Mark Hollis sing. A live album that has worn incredibly well. 9/10

Anybody interested in doing the movie of the week thread thing but with albums? Always wanting to try new music, and this might be a neat way to try things we aren't comfortable with, get to know each other's tastes, etc. I'm more in the mood/it's more workable for me to do this than the movie thing, to be honest. It'd be nice to have a healthy rotation of music to try without having to go out and look for it.

Plus, there's less worrying about who's heard what already because it's never a big thing to listen to the same album twice.

Gotterdammerung by Megaherz.

7.5/10

Solid riffs but some rather awkward moments. Das neue deutsche härte FTW.

Rammstein tour coming up in NA this year. Not for the timid, but an incredible experience for those with discriminating taste.

7/10 a very tentative voice, but very effective in its own way.

I've been listening to that Stone Roses album over and over again for the past month.

Any other recommendations? I tried those two after seeing them on your favorites list.

Have you heard PIL's "Second Edition" yet? It's among my favorites. I'm betting you've heard The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society but if not definitely check it out.

Radiohead - OK Computer 10/10.

Havn't really listen a lot to Radiohead except the most popular songs, but this album is pure gold. Probably listened to it 10 times this week. Next up is Kid A.

I know you've probably been forcefed the notion that you have to like this album, so I'll resist the urge to do that. But if you have an hour to kill (on a flight, in the car alone, etc), and you can just listen to it straight through, I bet you'll change your opinion of it. I didn't fully appreciate it until I listened to it straight through on a flight.

sure, glad you asked. I'll help you get started with some of my personal faves. Only the best.

Burial - Untrue
Nicolas Jaar - Space Is Only Noise
Brian Eno - Apollo (Atmospheres and Soundtracks)
Jon Hopkins - Insides
Jon Hopkins - Opalescent
Matthew Dear - Asa Breed
Noveller - Glacial Glow
Drive OST (by Cliff Martinez and Various Artists)
Dntel - Life Is Full of Possibilities
Unkle - End Titles... Stories for Film
Boards of Canada - Geogaddi
Four Tet - There Is Love In You
Rhythm & Sound - Rhythm & Sound (if you can find this, or anything by these guys, lucky you...)

Moody, absorbing, dark, soulful, deep, powerful, simple yet complex music. This is the type of stuff you get lost in and may never come back from. A lot of it is experimental but relatively mainstream, however some is completely obscure, uncharted, off the map, off the wall stuff that takes you on a journey.

Van Morrison - Tupelo Honey
9/10
What a great album, I had never heard any VM other than his big hits. But after hearing about the album from a few sources and most recently a good friend I decided to give it a shot. Great album to start to finish.

In the last two days:

Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
Pat Benatar - Best Shots
Doug Stanhope - Before Turning The Gun On Himself

I'm not good at rating stuff, I don't have any scientific system, but these are all at least a 9 (Though a Pat Benatar greatest hits album should have 'You Better Run'.).
