Tried looking through "Top instrumental guitar albums" on google and trying all the ones that got mentioned over and over again, but this is easily the worst experience I've had going through a group of these. I was annoyed by most of them, can't really think of a single song that I thought was okay-to-pretty decent off the top of my head, and I totally had my hopes up. Not saying I know anything about what a good guitarist is, I absolutely don't, but I just didn't enjoy any of it and was hoping for a bit more restraint and space or something.

Passion, Grace, and Fire \ Mclaughlin, Meola, Delucia - 2.5/5
Surfing with the Alien \ Joe Satriani - 2/5
Passion and Warfare \ Steve Vai - 1.5/5
Perpetual Burn \ Jason Becker - 1.5/5
Population Override \ Buckethead - 1.5/5
Powers of Ten \ Shawn Lane - 1/5
Rising Force \ Yngwie Malmsteen - 1/5
No Gravity \ Kiko Lourieiro - 0.5/5

If anyone's got better suggestions I'd love to hear them.

I may just be being completely ignorant, but some of the stuff I tried just sounded like showing off-- endlessly blaring guitar-solos that didn't go anywhere and couldn't be bothered to pause or something (sometimes bordering on metal, too, which is another thing I can't really get into). Couldn't stand a lot of it and really didn't get it.

I guess I was sort of expecting/looking forward to stuff that was more in line with:

Listen to Bulletproof Tiger Sharee if you are into instrumental music. Check out the "You wanna kiss about it" album. Very cool stuff.

Oak Pantheon - From a Whisper.

Post-doom metal, obviously inspired by early Agalloch, but not nearly as good. Guitar lead tunes are nice.
