I agree with Tito. Not only was there 2 lefties coming up (which he subsequently put on), but 2 batters in a row took rips off of Clay (one being a line out).

It's easy to second guess, but in this case, the 2 batter outcome with Okie doesn't make the idea of putting him in a bad one.

In my defense I was typing my post BEFORE Okie decided to suck it up. I just think you have to have a bit of faith. Another 10-20 pitches wouldn't have killed him. I would have agreed with the move had he allowed two men to reach.

If we can get this Clay Buchholz to show up every 5th day, we're in business.

Seriously, this was a pleasure to watch. That change up was brilliant.

The 3K's were nice, but the hit was a double. Looked very good, though. Not the same velocity on the fastball that he used to have, but 94-95 with a good breaking ball should make him useful.

Wow. Wagner looked absolutely filthy. Great sign for them late inning at bats against the Yankees tough lefties.

huge series with tampa next. If the Sox can manage to sweep, that should effectively end Tampa's season, as they'd be 8.5 games out of the wildcard lead with 24ish games left

Since it's on the road I would be happy with taking 2 out of 3 games. Of course I would have no problems with a Red Sox sweep either.

Just winning a game in Tampa would be a success. They've got the pitching matchups set up pretty much how they'd like it in Tampa.

Lester v. Sonnastine
Beckett v. Garza
Buchholz v. Price

It'd be nice to make some statement against the Rays. 1-5 down at The Trop, and 4-8 vs. Tampa Bay overall.

It will be crow when Papelbon needs a day off, because that's a nice option to have, if it comes to it. If Papelbon needs a day off, or blows a save, it will be nice to be able to turn to Wagner instead of Bard or Saito.

Right, but Wagner can only pitch once every other day and wasn't available on Thursday because he had thrown a bullpen session. Encouraging results early on, but I'd like to see a bit more durability.

You're not going to see more durability from Wagner. He's 11 months removed from TJ surgery, which is actually way ahead of the normal curve. He won't be able to go back-to-back, and every other is probably unlikely until the playoffs.

Well sometimes, you're in a game where you know that someone won't be available the next day.
