Havta wonder waht the wings know that we dont.

Cause they have basically said Fack it, and have gone over the 40 mil mark next season. And it wasnt like this was sudden. They went years building to unload contracts at the CBA deadline. And then this year, more directly, this Trading deadline, they basically threw the structure out hte window. And Started signing people to extensions.

All the team's are fighting for playoff spots, and the Wings are re-signing all their players. hehe

Nice signing by Detroit. Although like X80D said, they will be in trouble if there's a hard salary cap in place.

But losing Lidstrom would really really suck. So I guess Holland is operating as if there's no Armageddon going to happen. He will deal with it if/when it happens.

as somebody said on the other board. Signing him for 5 mil or signing him for 10, with a hard cap Detroit is screwed. So Why not get everybody under contract now. And Lidstrom is worth every Penny, Dime and quarter.

I doubt there will be a luxery tax. So Detroit may not be able to add UFA talent until they are under the cap. So be it. There are no better Free agents out there to replace losing a Lidstrom

Good point. If they are screwed, they are screwed. Lidstrom is so important to the team, I'd hate to see what they would be like without him. I still like the signing because Lidstrom stays for a couple of years. Looks like Chelios will be the odd man out because Schneider is still a UFA too.

I wonder what the Blues are going to do with Pronger. Wings decided to pay Lidstrom 10 mil, will the Blues do the same with Pronger?

As a hockey fan (a Leafs one), I'm extremely happy that Nik will continue his career here in the NHL. This is good for the game.

I don't see us handing out many more big contracts. If vets are asking too much, we can afford to let a few of them walk with the young guys we have now and the up-and-comers (Robinson, Kronwall, Hudler, Grigo). Plus a few of the AHL griffins proved they can play the game and play it well (Rivers, Myrvold)The only bigger contract I can really see happening would be Schneider.

See, its not that the wings have a huge payroll, its that half of their players are overpaid.
