Didn't Z go to the K?

And yeah, we know more than Burke.

yay.
if only for the fact that it will be another push for those who need it, and who knows, if he shows up and out works someone for the job....whats the harm in a 1 year deal to help out the younger players.
Could also instill some value back into his name and make him an asset for the trade deadline.

Two good seasons, then two crappy ones. Hrm. Which is the true Maxim?
Reminds me of Sergei Berezin. Which is a good thing because I liked Berezin for the most part.
That being said, what is it with all these hot Russian tennis players?
Do they just teach all of their models to play? This must be a product of the USSR days..

Burke made it known clearly they aren't going the UFA route.

Thank God !

If Burke fails to rig a trade for a decent top 6 forward, I'd give him a shot on a one year deal.

They have skill.. I am "nay" for Zherdev - too much money. Max will come at a basement bargain price and he will either work out or he won't. It wouldn't hurt to get him into the camp.

I'm sure Brian B Movement would rather spend 1.3 million on Mayers than 1.5 million on Afinogenov.

At least he knows what he'll get with Mayers ... not much.

give him an audition at training camp to see how he looks with Poni and Grabs, if he fits offer him a 1 year deal

Poni - Grabs - Afineganov
Tlusty - Stajan - Kulemin
Hagman - Wallin - Blake
Mitchell/Orr - Primeau - Mayers/Hanson

sorry. i should explain what i mean when i type "highlight reel guys". these are the kind of players that tend to be european, score a few highlight reel goals (pat themselves on the back and take the rest of the week off) through the season, have little or no toughness, and disappear in the playoffs. i think the leafs already have their share and i'm hoping Burke will cut a few of them loose before training camp.

Haha you're like last 30 posts have given some sarcastic remark about Burke's moves.

I've got a feeling Mayers brings more to the table than Max. I feel his confidence is shot, and his better days are behind him.

Doubt he'd take a camp invite...if he wants to sign a one-year deal for peanuts then why not, he'd be getting paid like a fourth liner and it wouldn't exactly stop Burke from making other moves for this mysterious top 6 forward he wants.

Like 3 years too late but he is a good age (29), so I wouldn't exactly mind signing him.

i like the guy. on those buffalo teams (admittedly while surrounded by tons of talent) i always thought he was the most dangerous guy on the ice. kind of a poor man's alex mogilny. 1.5mm for a year? if he sucks, we can just send him down...

anybody know if he has a chance to play for russia in vancouver?

Cheap he is. Get this attitude monster. Mogilny times he would bring back. We would all love watching him play with that small, black puck.

They already have several much younger players that can provide the 20-30 points he will likely manage. Stempniak has outscored him the last two years.

If they had an opening for a winger on their top two lines and absolutely no NHL prospects I would certainly give him a look, or Sykora, or maybe Cheechoo. But adding a 30 year old who has scored 48pts in his last 104 games when they have vets and prospects lined up for the position is something even JFJ wouldn't do.

The best indicator of what a player will do next season is last season. Afi is not a player they need. I would much sooner use Tlusty or Bozak or Stalberg and I bet all three are good for better than 6 goals in 48 games. If you sign him, they go down.

Id pay him 1.5 million for 1 season. See what he can do on a line with Grabovski, and Kulemin. Fastest line in hockey?

I really hope he signs somewhere, I hate seeing exciting talents like Afinogenov bolt to the KHL.
