How about Gary Thorne? In my opinion, He is one of the best play-by-play announcers around.

Hopefully NHL network will pick up more and show what VS would have. If I end up missing Ranger games because of this, I'm gonna be PO'd.

What a joke so we will miss 8 Rangers games which is awful. I will be getting used to Albert and Maloney. Also will be missing the conference finals, and Versus has what 2 Stanley Cup games?

I agree, but my favorite was Tom Mees. Sad story. But anyway. I'm sure the announcement was made just in case a deal can't be worked out. I wouldn't be shocked if DirecTV customers didn't miss a game.

VS is raising their rates? That's funny. They just moved the VS HD channel out of the 700's with all the other HD's on my cable system. Saying the NHL should leave VS and get on ESPN is nuts. First, ESPN bites. Secondly, ESPN doesnt WANT the NHL. If they did, they'd be on. They'll be on Lifetime or WE before they are on ESPN.

Jeez, I am pissed. Sorry to barge into your board, but I saw this headline and I had to investigate. Looks like I will be looking for a new provider.

I don't know if I agree that ESPN "bites" but they obviously have a much larger audience than VS. And the only reason the NHL doesn't have a deal with ESPN is that the NHL didn't offer them the same sweetheart deal they did to VS. Bettman wanted to extend the expiring deal and coming out of the lockout ESPN wanted to renegotiate. ESPN did/does want the NHL, but they know they have the hammer. They won't overpay for it and they don't want to be "partners" like VS is with the NHL. Another reason ESPN didn't bite at the NHL's offers was that they had just signed with the NBA so they had that ad revenue to more than make up the slack.

Yep with Cablevision, none of the games are shown in HD which sucks because the quality's awful. Anyone know if they'll be showing at least some games in HD this year?

I think Verizon only has one channel dedicated to Hi-def for Center Ice so pickings are pretty slim there as well.

Aren't you guys with TWC in NYC used to this kind of posturing btw carriers and networks? This seems like the usual gamesmanship.

BTW I'm a DTV subscriber so I'd be pissed if they can't work it out b/f the season starts. But I think it will get worked out.

From what I have read, Versus is currently available to 75 million households. DirecTV has 24.2 million customers. I find it hard to believe that they are willing to drop their availability by 1/3 just over a rate. If Comcast had any brains they would renew with DirecTV.

This is an inconvenience, but I will watch every Rangers game this year Versus or no Versus.

I thought of something during the course of the day. If this happens and DirecTV cuts ties with VS, would they find a way to put those games on another channel? Obviously they couldn't carry VS' feed, but every game (or damn near close to it) is also aired in Canada. I believe it's TSN2. Now I think TSN2 takes their feed from VS, but if they are using the Canadian feed, can VS do anything to stop it? I realize that is probably giving way too much credit to DirecTV (if their customer service is any indication, they don't exactly have top minds working for them, but hey at least they can run 9,000 commercials an hour), and it may not even be legal, but I wondered if those games could be shown on Center Ice.

You're right. It's not legal. VS has the exclusive US rights to air these games. No Center Ice and no Canadian feeds. There'd be nice, fat lawsuits on both sides of the border.
