Opening night video:

http://kings.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?catid=-6&id=45745

You have to give it a lot of time to load, and fast forward by the first 40 or so minutes of dead air. It's about 3 hours total. Dustin Brown's speech is 1 hour 59 minutes in.

Just watched it all front to back, terrific event. So amazing to see all those guys there on the stage at once... I would do anything for the season to start today, can't wait.

Los Angeles Kings HockeyFest 09 Looks Like A Hit

I still have about 3 hours worth of audio interviews to transcribe, so look for a bunch of stories coming soon.

DL went out of his way to thank the players for "showing up for training camp 2 weeks early" during his panel on Sunday. I wouldn't be surprised to see some unofficial camp stuff going on over these next couple weeks. Almost every player is in town now given - we saw them all on Friday . Only Smyth, Frolov and Ivanans weren't there in person.

Rookie Tournament is in 9 days as well. I have next week off of work so I plan on going to both games.

Very excited for the season to start.

I was looking to go to one of the games as well. I read on Hammonds blog that you would need tickets does anyone know how I would go about getting these and are they free?

- DL said that he expects top prospects such as Hickey, Teubert, Bernier and Voynov to get one more year of seasoning on the minors. He didn't rule out the NHL, but they would have to shock them in training camp to stay up with the club - noting that it would need to be a Simmonds-esque performance for that to occur.

- DL *again* dismissed any notion that Heatley would be coming to LA this year. Said Heatley is far too much of a gamble to take while the core of this team is still forming. Lots of cheers and applause when DL shut the door (again) on that rumor.

Lots of praise for Bernier, Drewiske, and all of the prospects on their progress. DL noted that this year is a do or die year for Purcell.

Bob Miller's one man show was terrific. The stories he told were mostly from his book, and they managed to dig up video clips to tie in with the stories that really brought them to life and the entire performance was very well done. He showed highlights from the Kings various playoff runs over the years as well.

We had lunch at the Yard House around 11:30AM and who walks in and sits down at the table in front of us but Dustin Brown, his wife Nicole and their two kids Jake and Mason!

I had a chance to briefly say hello to Dustin when they walked in, and I have to say that Dustin has the father role down pat. Jake was being a handful and Dustin managed to turn the crying into laughing in no time flat.

All in all it was a great afternoon. Get the season started already!

Tony, who did Lombardi think would take that final #6 D spot then if he thinks all those kids need another year in the minors...?

Murray also said he has spent quite a bit of time watching videos -- not only of the Kings but of teams that had success in the playoffs last spring, to get an idea of what those teams did that the Kings might adapt. He has been sketching out tentative lines and defense pairs and was surprisingly bullish on 24-year-old defenseman Davis Drewiske, saying that "coming into training camp this year we have him penciled in as one of our top six guys. The anticipation for me to see him is very high."

could be. all depends on the confidence level, and optimism.

a LOT hangs on Johnson... more than any other defender.

I heard DL said they want to try to keep Handzus and Frolov together and OD paired with Doughty:

Smyth-Kopitar-Williams
Moller/Purcell-Stoll-Brown
Frolov-Handzus-Simmonds
Westgarth/Ivanans-Lewis/Richardson-Zeiler/Harrold

O'Donnell-Doughty
Johnson-Greene
Scuderi-Drewiske

Quick
Ersberg

Looks good to me.
Purcell is on a one way. Moller is probably headed for Manchester and Purcell plays with Handzus-Simmonds.

I would also think they would want someone like Scuderi playing with Johnson.

I read something about Stoll being injured? Anyone has more information on this?

Here are the lines I would love to see on the opening day:

Smyth-Kopitar-Williams
Möller-Stoll-Brown
Frolov-Handzus-Simmonds
Purcell-Lewis/Richardson-Westgarth/Ivanans/Clune/Harrold

Drewiske-Doughty (They played awesome together last season)
Scuderi-Greene (A real shutdown defensive pairing->NICE)
O'Donnell-Johnson (At some point I would love to see either Voynov or Hickey on the NHL squad)

Quick-Ersberg-Bernier (Camp decides who takes which position)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Purcell has some shifts with other lines --> depends of how hard he will work this time around.
If Lewis manages to perform well I can see Stoll being traded and Lewis replacing him on the 2nd line. (NOTE: Stoll isn't really a prototypical 2nd line center in the NHL -> He should be more of a 3rd line center)
If the team needs more pressure from the blue line then Greene and Johnson are switching their positions.

my 0.20$

Did you mean $0.02 worth? No way is that worth 20 cents. And for those who already paid, where do they apply for their 18 cent refund?

thanks for that. looks like TM is pretty set on putting smyth on the first line with kopi and williams to kick it off and is favoring putting doughty with odonnel to start the season. wouldn't be my picks but i cant wait to see how they work.
