Nabbys Shutout Totals This Season

I was checking out the stats the other day and noticed that Nabber's only got 2 shutouts this season. On further review, during his really good seasons, he's had way more ranging from 6-9, and 1 to 3 during off seasons. On all accounts this is he's having one of his best seasons, his save % is currently best ever for him. Why the low shutout count?

Team defense has been less than great. Shutouts, perhaps more so than most goalie stats are dependent on the defense not making any mistakes.

Two reasons. One: turnovers. The team has a bad habit of feeding the transition game and that leads to odd-man rushes that get goals. Two: the blue liners. They're not all that great at clearing the front of men and pucks.

The Sharks need the other team to score first to wake them up.

Also, the pucks are small and the goal is large.

This

It makes it extremely difficult to stop that tiny little puck every time.

I blame Huskins ... only because Semenov isn't around.

People above me have mentioned pretty much all there is to mention. I would like to think that generally, shutouts and GAA have a very high positive correlation with one another. They both tend to be more indicative of how good the entire team is at keeping pucks away from their own net than just the goaltender's abilities. I've always thought the shutout was one of the most underrated statistics in all of hockey.

I just find it oh so amusing that he's been unable to notch career shutout #50. Ever since he recorded #49 and they announced that mini-milestone, he always seems to be at least one bad bounce short of a shutout.

Not a troll, but Nabby just frustrates me to death and this is the conclusion I have come to about him

Just a question, then; how much do you watch him? And what is your opinion of the Sharks' defense?

Hm. Please explain. I have concluded the opposite.

On second thought, maybe it's just the forwards who suck defensively/make a million too many turnovers.

i love nabby as much as the next sharks fan

he makes amazing plays and keeps the boys in it. he makes great saves on hard shots

BUT!!!

he lets in alot of soft goals.

as much as it pained me i have been working on a video from this season and last that prove my point

hopefully it will be done by the end of the month

All goalies let in soft goals. Nabby gives the sharks a chance to win most games and that's all you can really ask for in a goalie IMO.

The opposing team needs to stop shooting at his five-hole, simple as that.

Or we need to put some webbing down in between his pads so nothing goes through

You know when he first stepped in, he implemented more Stand-Up techniques in his game. Instead of falling down on his pads, he would regularly press them together to avoid shots between his legs. As time passed he started shedding the Stand-Up parts and has become a solid Butterfly. Sure he'll use a few Stand-Up methods, but its not as frequent.
