It doesn't sound like anything is going to get done in time for tonight's games, unless DTV gets permission from Versus to show them without a new deal in place.

I have DTV and the Bruins/Caps game is not on, still the same message listed on the Versus channel. Looks like the game won't be on tonight.

Just got CI for the season for free. I guess not having Versus pays! The guy said they hope to have it worked out by a month from now, for what it's worth.

Wasn't able to get it for free but after much teeth-pulling, I was able to get Center Ice for 20 bucks. Not bad considering they are probably trying to put the kibosh on the free Center Ice.

After dealing with them...I think I'll be switching my TV provider after the hockey season.

Without contacting Direct TV, my dad received CI free for one month. He was notified by email. Although if the Sharks play like they did Thursday night when televised by Versus...Direct TV is doing you all a favor.

Hopefully Versus will be back to DirecTV soon after they lose ruling.

The rules require Comcast, for instance, to make channels that it owns — including E! Entertainment, Versus and the Golf Channel — available to rivals such as DirecTV, Dish Network, AT&T's U-Verse video service and Verizon's FiOS video service.

It's so funny how the comcast pr team says "these rules are old and outdated and need to be revised." Since it only benefits them I could see how they could think that way, but it's a good rule that is even more important today then it was 20 years ago.

This rule has little effect on Versus on DirecTV because it's not being blocked, but they simply can't agree to financial terms. BUT if you read DBSTalk forums, the business of hockey forum here, and DirecTV's twitter, you'll see various sources reporting that Versus could be back in a matter of days as reportedly they are very close to a deal.

Even someone on hfboards claims to work for DirecTV at their broadcasting center and is personally testing the feed. Point is, all of signs point to us DirecTV customers having Versus back this month.

If not, I'm prepared to sign up for a 30 day trial with comcrap, and then cancel it.

I think this is important part of the rule"

A federal court Friday upheld regulations that require cable TV companies to make sports programming and other channels they own available on equal terms to rival TV providers such as satellite companies.
One of DirecTV's major beefs was that Comcast was trying to charge them more for Versus than it's charges it's own cable system.

There is a God. I'm so relieved. I was going to dish out $60/month during playoffs on top of my DirecTV bill for cable and also have to deal with physical cabling issues and restrictions, but now that's all gone. This is so awesome, I'm so happy this feels like another birthday!!

But wasn't that because DirectTV placed it on a pricier tier package, so people with Versus were paying more dough to get it (and the VS viewership would be lower among DTV customers than other services)?

All moot now though, nice to see it back on DirectTV so that I can go watch playoff games in bars instead of alone in my apartment.

No, the major beef from DirecTV's point of view was that although they had it the equivalent tier to DISH Network, DISH was paying a cheaper rate. DirecTV initially wanted the DISH Network rate. Versus (Comcast) said no and we had this long dreadful period.

Supposedly (just rumors) in recent negotiations spurred by both sides (Versus wanting NHL to be seen by DirecTV customers, and DirecTV wanting to come to the table because now it was also MMA, cycling, and Indycar fans who were voicing complaints), DirecTV wanted to move Versus to the sports pack, an additional pack that costs extra. Versus/Comcast was adamant in saying no, and I suppose with a deal done today, I would not be surprised if DirecTV was paying DISH Network's rate for the channel.

But we won't know since terms are confidential. We do know, however, that it is not going in the additional sports pack.

thank god.

Now if only my DirectTV box wasn't slower than a 386 I'd be happy as a clam.

That reminds me that I actually saw a FSM decal/logo thing on the back of someone's car the other day. Like they make the fish for Christians and the fish eating a fish for those who believe Darwin. I was laughing because I had never seen one before and wondered how many people would know what it meant.

Arggh!
