1st reaction : wtf?

2nd reaction: good for him I guess!

What are the prerequisites to become a Senator anyways?

Another proof that the Conservatives are a joke... I guess Christian Paradis needed someone of the same intellectual level in the parliament, so he wouldn't feel alone??

I think "missing the playoffs" and "demanding a trade" are good starts.

Actually, another proof that the Senate is a joke. You tax money at "work", people. Whoever gets the job of preparing Demers' notes for his speeches will have a cushy job, at least.

Demers will have a nice big pension...

NHL (coaching association) + RDS + Canadian Senator = $$$

Weird decision but he's a good guy!

A new PEPS? Seriously? Awesome I guess! (even tho the old PEPS is alright)

Anyways this is a conservative popularity stunt, they are getting desperate, clearly.

how is he supposed to vote on Canadian Law if he can't READ. I mean I love the guy and all, but this is ********. The senate is supposed to be there to check and balance the Parliament. This country is going down the drain...

it was announced 2 summers ago I believe ... TQS was still on the air at that time and I believe Dave Morrissette was working there also ...

yeap, the new football stadium is being built, or is about be done, I haven't been to school this summer so I can't tell where they're at now. Increased capacitance and new press box I would think since we're hosting the Vanier Cup next season.

they're building new pools and a bunch of new sports infrastructures also for the Peps

So he's a Conservative supporter. Another (unsurprisingly) bad decision by Demers.

That's only in theory. In fact, the senate is just about powerless and certainly irrelevant and serves only as PR, as far as I can tell. I don't want to be too cynical, but pigs at the trough probably have better manners.

A bit unusual to say the least but the more I think about it the more I am happy for the man.
He is an example of determination and posesses leadership abilities.
Good stuff.

you're not totally wrong, but it has happened in the past that the Senate has sent back bills of law because they didn't agree. Senators can also introduce bills of their own.

Quote:
The late 1980s and early 1990s was one of those periods. During this period the Senate opposed legislation on issues such as the 1988 free trade bill with the U.S. (forcing the Canadian federal election of 1988), and the Goods and Services Tax (GST).[5][6] In the 1990s, the Senate rejected four pieces of legislation: a bill passed by the Commons restricting abortion (C-43), a proposal to streamline federal agencies (C-93), a bill to redevelop the Lester B. Pearson airport (C-28), and a bill on profiting from authorship as it relates to crime (C-220). The Senate also performs investigative functions. In the 1960s, the Senate authored the first Canadian reports on media concentration with the Special Senate Subcommittee on Mass Media or the Davey Commission,[7] since "appointed senators would be better insulated from editorial pressure brought by publishers"; this triggered the formation of press councils.[8] More recent investigations include the Kirby Commissions on health care (as opposed to the Romanow Commission) and mental health care by Senator Michael Kirby, and the Final Report on the Canadian News Media in 2006.[9]

Damn ! As much as I respect the Coach, he CAN'T READ !.

No offence, I know where he comes from and everything I he has my total respect.

But let's be serious here, a senator job is easy and pretty much useless in Canada. But you need to be able to write and read. Come on...
