Voted for Vatanen. BTW. that's not Vatanen in the EP profile pic, is it? Why would he wear a Mountfield Ceske Budejovice-jersey?

Edit. To add, Granlund and Pulkkinen definately have the higher potential to make the NHL IMHO, but Vatanen will probably play behind JYP's second line and in the 2nd PP unit (with Kalle Koskinen) while G and P likely will have to settle to 3rd or 4th line duties with very little PP time. Around 10-15ish points for those two, 15 to 25 points for Vatanen.

From the options listed, Jarmo Jokila will likely score the most points though as he is probably gonna play in the 1st line of SaiPa (suckiest roster in the history of SM-liiga?) but I consider him to be a bit of an overager to win the rookie award.

I'm going with Vatanen too, he has the best chance of scoring a lot points. Granlund seems too weak physically (based on reports) to warrant ice time that would help score points. If Pulkkinen has to play with Tomi Mäki as his center he'll get decent minutes 83rd line) but will be lucky to score 10 points.

Where is Joonas Nättinen? He played in Sm-league only 13 games last year, so he will still be rookie.

Sami Vatanen, Eero Elo and Joni Ortio are my picks. I think it´s not Granlund´s time yet.

Cut-off number of games to be considered rookie

How many games constitutes a player still being considered a rookie in SM-Liiga. And are so many junior players really going to be in full-time roles this season? It seems like quite a few older players are still un-signed.

I naturally voted for Pulkkinen.

Has there ever been rookie of the year poll?

Back in times, even Teemu Selänne managed to break all record and still go unselected. LOL

I see this as three way race. And nope, Nättinen isn´t in those three, though he might win it. For those that have lived in a barrel. Pulkkinen-Granlund-Vatanen are the names everyone is looking for. JYP/Habs prospect Nättinen, who plays for Blues, is year ahead. So it is up for him to win. I miss Rajala already ....

My wildcards. Joni Ortio... and Nico Manelius - is he broken again?!

I would put my money to Mika Niemi.

He is already 21, but making his debut a bit late. He is a lot more experienced than Pulkkinen or Granlund and will be "up" the whole season so I think he would constantly make some points. He could be the 3rd line center for Ässät and has the potential to make 20 points.

Of course Pulkkinen or Granlund will make more points if they play as many games, but I think that both will play only about 20 games.

There is a reason why he is 21 year young rookie.

Yes, but the reason is not in Ässät anymore so Niemi can finally make his debut,

Yeah. I forget Eero Elo. He is VERY good. Whats up him not being selected to U20? He is already propably better than any other than those superstars.

If we think these young players and their playing types, we get this:

Granlund = Saku Koivu
Pulkkinen = Teemu Selänne
Nättinen = Olli Jokinen
Vatanen = Kimmo Timonen

He was selected to the U-20 tournament in Finland next week. And no, he is not better than Pulkkinen, Granlund or Vatanen. He only has size on them.

The HIFK homer in me voted for Granlund, although I think someone a bit older will probably win it. The 0+5 against TPS are maybe getting my hopes up even higher when it comes to Granlund, though.

Other: I will surprisingly suit up for Kärpät, backstopping them and taking the gold to Oulu where it begins
