I don't mind dumping Lukowich, but letting Ehrhoff go for 2 mediocre prospects is not exactly what I envisioned.

You can put me in the camp that now assumes Heatley will be a Shark before training camp.

I'm not a big Shark fan, I have not read all the posts, but why was this trade necessary? I thought Ehrhoff was a solid number 3 or 4 D-man? Is there another young guy that is coming up that is better then him or what?

I really don't understand this at all. I can't believe we couldn't get something decent for Ehrhoff salary dump or no salary dump. We could have given him away to a lot of teams if the sharks wanted to.

There is going to be another trade but couldn't we package Ehrhoff or luko with it and not lose so many pieces?

Cogliano put up more points in his rookie NCAA season than White has in his first two seasons. In Cogliano's second NCAA season, he was 2 points shy of putting up twice as many points as White has so far in his 2-year NCAA career.

I think that White could pan out to be an NHLer, but even ignoring the fact that Cogliano is a small speedster and White is a bigger slower guy, to compare them at this point is ridiculous.

I really don't understand this from all points.

Everything indicates that Murray and the Sens would have liked to have Erhoff. Murray is still adamant about not acquiring Cheechoo. So why can't Wilson either put Cheechoo on waivers or trade him for a low pick, and use Erhoff in a deal to acquire Heatley (since Cheehoo and Erhoff both have a similar cap hit) if that is his masterplan in all of this?

Unless we're getting Heatley this trade sucks, but I'm glad Joslin is finally going to get his shot now.

He sounds more like Bernier, but crappier.

No, theres nobody coming up and theres only one person on the D that has better wheels than error did and thats Boyle.

Essentially as it stands I see our D men getting embarrassed by crafty fast forwards multiple times a game because theres nobody to skate with them.

Ehrhoff was faster than Boyle, easily. Boyle is just trickier. He has the best hands on the team, and that's counting forwards.

Sad.

Now you will know how I feel this year. My favorite team is Washington, great offense, and really nothing on D.

But hey, you never know DW might have something up his sleeve?

Wasn't Ehrhoff the one who was matched up against the opposing superstar players this past season? I remember initially it was Vlasic the season before that, but this last season the coaching staff was more confident of Ehrhoff's ability to do this (due to superior skating, good stick work).

Another thought though is that maybe a better defenceman from Ottawa would be heading SJ's way? Volchenkov maybe? Bu then the price for a Heatley - Volchenkov package would be pretty huge I'd guess....

I am still all confused by this...

Even if you look at this as purely a salary dump, there had to have been *better* salary dumps. Maybe Lukowich doesn't have much net value given his salary, but it's not like he has an overwhelmingly negative value. Ehrhoff, given his point production, speed, potential, ability to QB the PP, etc., reasonably has a positive net value in my mind.

Further, Ehrhoff, is uniquely valuable to the Sharks; why would you give that up? First, he was the Sharks' team defensive speed (with the ability to play somewhat phycially when he gets to the man). There's a whole class of players that I cannot explain how to cover man-to-man now. He was a PP QB. Third, he soaked up so many minutes. Does Huskins start playing 30 minutes a game; um, probably not. Does. Not. Make. sense. What happened to waivers and throwaways for a 7th?

That's a thought, Volchenkov would be dumb seeing as he's only got 1 year left and probably wont stick around.

I'd rather have Lee.

That said, how do you get either of them? We don't have enough to trade.

Cheechoo + Michalek + Couture is about the absolute most we could spare and theres no way Murray is giving us heatley and Lee for that. Thankfully.

This off-season has been a slow motion train wreck.

Hopefully this is just setting up a move for Kessell or Heatley. If not, then FML.

This is your idea of making the team better, DW? I'm just about ready to start the Fire DW threads.

I'm not mad that Ehrhoff was gone, because now we might win some OT games, but to get basically nothing for him AND Luko is ridiculous.
