So there's a part 2 to this trade where Vancouver just sends us a handful or draft picks, right?

As Ryan Garner just put it....here's the Sharks offseason:

Out: Ehrhoff, Lukowich, Grier, Moen, Goc, Roenick, Lemieux, Plihal, Boucher, Semenov

In: Nichol, Ortmeyer

....oh yea...we're better now.

I wonder if you guys are making room for a big D AND an F?

-Patrick Marleau ($6.3M) for Sheldon Souray ($5.4M)
-Jonathan Cheechoo, Logan Couture, Milan Michalek ($7.33M) for Heater and Elliott ($8.3M)

Then you'd have about $5M left to fill out the roster, maybe sign a Tanguay or something:

Heatley-Thornton-Setoguchi
Tanguay-Pavelski-Clowe
McGinn-Mitchell-FA
Shelley-Nichol-Ortmeyer

Souray-Boyle
Blake-Vlasic
Murray-Huskins
Joslin

Nabokov
FA

It's almost like that if you get rid of 10 NHL'ers and pick up 1 or 1.5, there's going to be a problem.

Incompetent scouts. And I'm not saying this just because we just traded him to you guys. If you want proof you can look back at my posting history or ask anyone on the Canucks board my opinion of him and they'll tell you. Straight up, the guy is garbage. This is the same Canucks organization that took Nathan Smith over Brad Boyes, Luc Bourdon (rip) over Anze Kopitar and almost took Kyle Beach over Cody Hodgson if our GM didn't override the scouts.

Umm...after 2 seasons in the NCAA, Andrew Cogliano had 78 points (in 77 games played). White has 26 points in 81 games played.

I'm trying to think of a positive here, and all I can come up with is: At least it was Vancouver who hosed us and not a team I hate.

Possible explanations:
1. Doug has a substance abuse problem, and we need to be supportive of him during this hard time.
2. Doug said for the 1,000th time "I can get under the cap with one phone call." Gillis bet him $100 he couldn't.
3. Luko and Ehrhoff were tragically injured yesterday and can no longer play hockey.
4. The cosmic forces put a curse on us because we won the Thornton trade so badly. Doug realized the curse will not be lifted until we get outrageously robbed.

...in other words, I got nothing.

Haha, same here.

Though it'll be nice if there was a "ignore all CDCers" option on HFBoards. Would make reading anything involving the Canucks a whole hell of a lot easier.

While he was not the best pick available at the time, it was not as off the board as some think. In 2007 ISS described White as:
Quote:
He is very mature for his age and has all the skills to succeed in the NHL. He is very smart and patient with the puck and he controls and stays with the puck very well in traffic. Has good size and was tough to push of the puck in the corners and along the boards. Went to the net without the puck. Not a fluid skater, but gets there. With all his offensive ability he still shows good defensive awareness and the willingness to help out in the defensive zone. Nominated for the Mr. Hockey award. Has a lot of potential and can only get better.
However the last line has turned out to be the opposite of the truth. White has put embarrassingly low point totals at Minnesota (26 points in 81 games) and his development seems to have completely stalled.

We can get a 2nd rounder in either 2011 or 2012 if White is not signed - in 2011 if he leaves school early and gones back into the draft or in 2012 if he stays in school through the graduation of his class, remains unsigned on 8/15, and becomes a UFA.

Correct.

Nope, Nope, & Nope. No Bona Fide Offers are necessary for NCAA players. The Sharks keep his rights for two more years and get compensation if unsigned even if they make no contract offers.

Cut and Pasting from the Ehrhoff thread on the main trade board:

If he leaves early and is unsigned, he goes back into the 2011 draft - if he finishes school and doesn't sign by 8/15 he can become a UFA. Either way, the Sharks would receive a compensatory pick (#55 - #25 in the second round) in either the 2011 (if he leaves early) or 2012 (if he stays) drafts.

I don't get that luxury. Well, ok personally I have nothing against teh Canucks as a team. What I don't like is that my Canuck fan friends are now going to hold this over me.

Meh, I guess Ehrhoff for a delayed 2nd isn't that bad. Thanks for the clarification.

i can see White and Rahimi turning things around after receiving better developmental coaching in San Jose..Listen to the words of Pat Funk, different players develop at different rates, maybe these two start to get it and turn out to be huge for us.

Is the 2nd round pick a conditional pick from Vancouver (if White isn't resigned), or is it an NHL compensatory pick (like the Rangers got for being "unable" to resign Cherepanov)?

Good luck with White. He's been a collosal dissapointment in Vancouver and probably the worst 1st round pick this decade, but maybe he turns it around for you guys.
