I'll have something on White soon, but the NHL scouts that I spoke with outside of the Sharks organization can't believe they made this deal.

that says it all.

You've now supplanted Bob Geren on the people I really really hate list.

Why did DW think that Ehrhoff + Lukowich was worth two borderline NHL players at best?

Thanks.

I hope it's the same as last year and we end up getting an even better defenseman or something... Is DW sold on Heatley (who I didn't like at the canada game) and trading Michalek+Cheech for him That would be even worse.

Nathan Smith was worse in this decade.

Since 2001 he's the worst though. I tried to support him, but I'm glad he's gone, too hard to defend his lack of production.

Moreover, Rahimi's lack of mobility is infuriating.

But, 5M in cap space is nice.

If Sharks don't sign White they get a compensatory 2nd round pick, which would make a lot more sense at this point.

I grew up watching Keenan hockey in Vancouver and I feel for you guys. However hopefully this makes room for a bigger deal to SJ that we just can't see yet.

(Obviously the lines are not right.)
Mitchell and Staubitz have to be resigned.
FORWARDS
Joe Thornton ($7.200m) / Patrick Marleau ($6.300m) / Milan Michalek ($4.333m)
Ryane Clowe ($3.625m) / Jonathan Cheechoo ($3.000m) / Joe Pavelski ($1.637m)
Devin Setoguchi ($1.247m) / Jamie McGinn ($0.997m) / Scott Nichol ($0.750m)
Jody Shelley ($0.725m)
DEFENSEMEN
Dan Boyle ($6.667m) / Rob Blake ($4.000m)
Marc-Edouard Vlasic ($3.100m) / Douglas Murray ($2.500m)
Kent Huskins ($1.700m)
GOALTENDERS
Evgeni Nabokov ($5.375m) / Thomas Greiss ($0.550m)
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS
ROSTER: 17; PAYROLL: $53.706m; CAP ROOM: $4.334m BONUSES: $1.240m

My ideal roster out of what's left.
Resign Mitchell and Staubitz. for 900k and 550k respectively.
Sign Manny Malhotra or Taylor Pyatt for ~1.0 million
Joslin as 6th dman, Semenov is paid 550k for 7th dman.
Full roster, with much better 3rd and 4th lines that last year with about 260k of cap space.

....oh yea...we're better now.
Ehrhoff - hell be missed
Lukowich - hell be missed
Grier - hes been up and down with the sharks. replaceable
Moen - not really a big deal because he was only a rental
Goc - mediocre 3 line center easily replaceable
Roenick - big loss
Lemieux - easily replacable pretty much a non factor
Plihal - might be missed
Boucher - had some ups and downs. struggled at times when filling in for injured nabby. would rather have him tehn greiss
Semenov - no big deal

out of the players missed i think error will be the biggest loss followed by roenick and boucher. with the loss of error joslin will get a chance and might be able to fill the void. with a salary cap theres always a case where teams are going to lose good players because you cant fit them all in. with the cap space moen, grier, goc, plihal can all be upgraded.

I'd go w/ Moore instead of Semenov - still would fit under the cap.
Pyatt would be ideal for the 3rd line and PK unit. Malhotra, too, but he may be too expensive

We're a laughing stock even more than last April/May. Great!

I've gone and piled lots of alcohol down my mouth in the last 2 hours and I've finally worked it out:

Mike Gillis has pictures of Doug Wilson that DW doesn't want to leak into the outside world. I can't find any other explanation.

Seriously, this deal is an absolute embarrassment and I feel my support for Wilson could have entirely turned in the space of one move. He needs to answer the fans and NOT "Oh we see a lot of potential in White etc.". He's clearly not worthy of a top 4 D.

Prove me wrong Doug. Prove us all wrong or I think you'll be out of job next June.

Yes it would, but as a 7th dman that would hurt Moore's development. Sitting around instead of getting playing time would not be a good thing. There's enough cap room left here that if a dman is out for a while, you could bring Moore up temporarily and have him play instead of Semenov.

Came in to see how you guys were feeling about this trade.

.... pretty much what I expected. I mean this in all honesty, I'm excited for what happened as a Canucks fan, but shaking my head at the deal as a whole.

I haven't been a big Ehrhoff fan, but I did think he had his best season ever last year (despite the poor +/-) and give props to him for improving each year. His contract is not a bad contract.

Trading him for the two players we got - even presuming we really traded him only for a second rounder .... that's still not a great trade no matter how you cut it. Just presuming there is a blockbuster trade in the background doesn't make up for this crap trade unless we are missing a piece of the transaction still which I am holding out for.

I find it hard to believe that this trade couldn't have yielded better results. This to me sounds like the trade DW was talking about a few weeks ago when he said he could get under the cap immediately by pulling the trigger on a standing offer. He didn't like it then and boy .... can't say I like this now. Just poor asset management to wait this long and come up firing blanks.

I'm still not totally down on DW but this along with the Bell acquisition and subsequent trade, and the deadline raiding of the farm and draft cupboards (and IMO sticking too long with Marleau) there is a negative trend getting established and its giving him a black eye.

I fear if this trade and the Nichol signing is all he does this summer, ..... there will be a lot more people calling for change at the top.

The big differance is the the fanbase will for the most part be totally clueless on why this and most of DW's moves are bad. This one being the worst of them all. The media here has no ability criticize wilson and just take his teal crap sandwich he gives them. "our young Defensemen will step up" same was said about Carle.

he has no clue
