He's seriously the best GM in the league folks, I don't give a damn what anyone says. I've been a huge fan since day one and he just slammed another home run.

(and we kept Hansen who I was seriously worried was gone when I first saw these headlines)
until he wins a cup, he's not going to be in contention for best GM.

And just for laughs...moving Bieksa ($3.75) and Demitra ($4.00) along with one of Raymond, Hansen or Wellwood PLUS a first rounder....well...that would leave us enough room for Heatley.

Just saying.

I leave the computer for a few hours, come back to see if Schneider is confirmed yet, and find out the world has gone mad!
White/Rahimi for Ehrhoff/Lukowich?!
Somebody pinch me!
The best value SJ gets out of this trade is dumped salary and the compensatory 2nd round pick (55th overall) when they don't sign White.
Will be some interesting battles for PP time on the point now:

Salo, Schneider, Bieksa, Edler, Ehrhoff, Samuelsson...

If Lukowich is buried in the minors (I can't see the team carrying 8 D with the number of forwards we have), then that puts us just under a million over the cap. With Demitra (and his 4 million salary) starting the season on LTIR we are very close to not having to make another move and still making it under the cap, depending on how long he takes to rehab.

The problem is injuries, because we don't really want to go down the route of the Flames and dress like 9 players for each game down the stretch.

Isnt that compensatory 2nd round pick only included if White signs with somebody else?

It's a weird deal. I don't think another move is necessarily pending. But I do think Lukowich is going to the farm to rot until needed...

Just for fun:

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Heatley - Kesler - Samuelsson
Raymond - Hodgson - Bernier
Rypien - Johnson - Hordichuk
Spare

Mitchell - Ehrhoff
Edler - O'Brien
Salo - Schneider
Lukowich

IIRC you only get the second round pick IF you offer the player a deal and he rejects it and becomes a UFA.

Another point:

One more Canucks player to cheer for at the Olympics next February!
It is safe to assume that Ehrhoff will be there...

Gillis claims that they don't have to move anyone and that this is more then anything else an injury insurance.

I guess this is our roster for now...

Just gotta say I don't want to see a guy like Demitra bought out. That's a waste of cap space in which you're getting nothing in return. I would hope Aquilini would be fine with paying someone in the minors instead.

This is my thinking, Lukowich to the minors, and then Demitra to the LTIR (for at least 20 games) and then that should be enough.

I agree, you keep Demitra around if at all possible. When he's healthy he's a top-6 forward.

Buying Demitra out would do nothing to help our cap issues, so it won't happen.

He will never take Sven Butenschön's spot as my favourite all-time German Canuck.

The Canucks already had more points in their top 4 defense than the Flames BEFORE these moves.
