I agree with Tyler. I think with both Downie and Tanguay in the top six we have atleast a 75% chance at the cup.

What do you guys think the future holds for Tanguay and the team?

I know we signed him for the one year in hopes that we make the playoffs and make the franchise some money as well, but what about next year? Everyone keeps saying we're gonna use him for a year; so whats do you guys think it would take for him to re-sign? I also know if we suck the first half we can probably get a good return for him at the trade deadline.

So do you guys think their is any chance of a future here, or just a one and done thing?

its a one year thing. If he's really good, it's going to cost more than we will be willing to pay. if he stinks, we aren't going to want him back.

Next year Tyrell should be ready. If not, there will almost certainly be another UFA available until he (and/or Ashton) is. After two bad years the games in March/April 2010 have to meaningful.

he's not trying to help the team as much as he's trying to help himself. He probably just wants to play and stay healthy all season and produce, so he can get his big contract come next off season. Not saying he's selfish and doesn't want to help the team or anything like that, but he obviously didn't choose to come here because he thought he could win a cup. That's what I think anyway.

as for the lightning management, they just saw him as a great pick up to bring us back to competitiveness and not have the season be over by December. If we make the playoffs, that's even better.

A bunch of nice quotes from Tanguay...

http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/lightn...-bay-lightning

With his relationship with Tocchet if he has a good year I wouldn't be too surprised to sign him to a longer deal next offseason.

Didnt really know where else to put this but since there were talks about how no one would want to sign with Tampa and everyone is saying Tanguay had no choice etc when he obviously did, I figured this was a good spot.

Turns out Veilleux was targeted by San Jose and given a 2 year deal offer but he turned it down to play here.

He confirmed to me what I wrote a few days ago — he turned down a two-year deal from San Jose to take one from Tampa. He said it was an agonizing decision because he said Sharks coach Todd McLellan, who used to coach him in Houston, called him two minutes after free agency began. But in the end, Veilleux was told he’d have a chance to play on the second line in Tampa. He feels he owes it to himself to give that a try.

Plus, Florida, retirement, etc etc.

Although San Jose... not a bad place at all to live.

I did not like Kubina.

Probably because he was Czech and wore the worst number you can. Plus he wasn't Nolan Pratt.

Jagr was Kubina's *****!

Kuby couldn't skate backwards the first couple of seasons and would flop on the ice and swing his stick to try and poke the puck away. He got better, much, much better. I wasn't thrilled to see him leave.

Yay! The Lightning signed Tanguay!

Yeah he was. I still remember that hit in the 03 playoffs when he layed Jagr out and the next game Jagr wore his "bloody" jersey.
