By definition, I am trading the ''on the clock'' pick, but I'm not trying to sell it while it's OTC and those kind of trades doesn't hold off the draft.
as long as the conditional trade is made (posted on thread and "confirmed") at least 24 hours before the picks involved are on the clock (to allow time for any objectors to speak up) then such conditional trades are fine - they do not violate the rules nor skirt the spirit of the rules

the three trade limit only applies to those trades that actually go through, so technically one could make a half dozen or more conditional trades over the course of the draft if they keep 'falling through'/made invalid by the condition of the trade not being met (the guy wasn't available after all).

That's ok, bro. Good luck to you! We made a great pairing for a few drafts. This helps us get up to 32 teams, anyway.

I'm in; I'm the Regina Pats.

I can't say I'm a true blue Leafs fan, I'm more of a hockey fan these days (I came from the Leafschat board as well). Nice to know there are some good fans of the local team here as well (I'm from Hamilton). Should be a pleasure to be doing this ATD with you all.

I'll be in with GBC. We'll think of a team name soon enough.

I feel sad everytime a veteran GM change their team name. It will feel weird to see Pappy with another team name than the ''Buffalo Bisons''

I'm still not sure if I'll be in this draft, or in what capacity. Go ahead and take the Canadiens.

I'll throw my hat in the ring as an assistant GM if anyone wants one. Just PM me. My class schedule just won't allow me to run a team solo. Can't promise I'll accept but you can try me.

What concerns me about this rule is that it makes sneaky trades basically impossible. The best example that comes to mind is my move up in the 3rd round of ATD#10 to snag Bill Gadsby. There's a good chance that if I'd had to announce that deal (which was made on Hedberg's clock, by the way, but very quickly) 24 hours or more beforehand that one of the GMs queued up to take Gadsby would have gotten wind of my intentions and beaten me to the punch.

This kind of trade is perhaps the exception to the rule, but it was absolutely key to the building of what was eventually a championship team. Many of the GMs here know each other's predilections very well; reducing the flexibility of trade maneuvers is a very serious handcuff. Personally, I think the abolishment of on-the-clock trades is already going too far, but I understand the need for speed in this iteration. Let's not go completely overboard with trade restrictions, though.

do NOT mention the player named in the deal... simply post the deal and state it is conditional on a certain unnamed player being available and have the other team keep the secret and confirm it - at least 24 hours before the clock is to start

no one else can jump up and take the guy you want unless they can read your mind!!! if someone can read your intentions, then so be it

Nah its cool..I kinda like the feeling of being the Maroons. One of the first teams I ever researched the history of as a kid.

Even though we've had teams on a solo basis, now I can't imagine doing the ATD without raleh. And it's a lot more fun working with him, too.

And we'll be known as the Medicine Hat Tigers.

This is exactly what concerns me. If your answer is "so be it", then I guess we have nothing more to discuss.

seems to me there's a simple answer here

team a makes a deal with team b conditional on a certain player being available

team a and b announce the deal but are not obliged to say whether or not the deal is conditional on the player being available

once the pick comes around if said player is no longer available, team a and b now announce the deal was conditional and that player is no longer available so it has been cancelled

as long as both sides knew and agreed in advance that the deal was conditional no need to tell everyone and tip a hand

Hey gang, I gotta back out of ATD 12.

I was really looking forward to starting my "HFBoards ATD Career", but it looks like it'll have to wait until ATD13.

School work is starting to pile up, and with this being a very important semester for me, I fear that I won't be able to give this the commitment it needs.

Johnny Engine, I know we were gonna be Co-GMs, but unfortunately, I guess that can't happen.

Sorry guys, I'll definitely try to follow this. Good luck

That's the plan. My Winter semester is looking to be pretty slack compared to this one, so I'm hoping I'll have more free time by then

Agreed. "Reverse conditional" deals is a very good way to resolve the problem.

So, if someone wants to take Chigurh's place and team up with me, I'd welcome that, no matter who you are (my first co-GM at the leafs board set a REALLY low bar for teamwork).
However, if I don't get a co-GM, I also will have to wait until ATD13.

Sign me up, but I may or may not need a co-GM.

The name New Jersey Swamp Devils amuses me, but I'll probably change it if I end up with a co-GM.
