Cherry weighs in on Leafs' season

Not that his opinion really matters to me but this is just a clip of how he thinks the Leafs will do next season.

Oh God... You know you're desperate for hockey when you're watching Cherry's vlog to MAYBE get a new tidbit or piece of info about the Leafs. October couldn't come faster.

QFT.

October 1st couldn't come any faster, it's going to be exciting throwing the Habs around the rink.

great thinking, Johnny.

We might as well hire a bunch of armed mercenaries from Blackstone and put them on skates. Anyone who tries to push us around will be shot. Winning or losing won't matter, just getting paid matters.

Goonery is increased, Don Cherry is pleased. A shocking development, I'm sure.

Must be a bunch of book-reading-types 'round here with all the anti-cherry sentiment.

I agree with Cherry's sentiment..

Until he said that he thinks Macdonald will be playing with the leafs and not Gustavsson.

What a dolt.

Blackwater?

And remember, we're Leaf fans. Cherry hates the Wings, not us. So we can, and are actually contractually obliged in some geographic locations to support him.

I think it was more of a case of Cherry gushing over MacD than him making a bold and thought out prediction, and definitely not the stupidest thing he's ever said.

In the context of what he was saying, it seemed to imply he believes that Gustavsson won't be a factor with the leafs and Macdonald will effectively be Toskala's backup. The thought was preceded by something like "I don't know anything about this monster guy ... Macdonald will be with the leafs!"

At least most of the time, Cherry seems like he is at the bare minimum, a tiny bit informed. In this case it takes a complete lacking in information to believe that the leafs could sign gustavsson and stick him with the marlies.

True, but Don Cherry makes it easy a lot of the time.

Many people who rip on Don have just grown out of the childhood phase of believing that he's infallible. I compare it to growing out of believing in the tooth fairy or santa.

I would hate to see what HNiC would be like with no Coach's Corner. Despite being outspoken, he's pretty damn entertaining. I don't have agree with all of his predictions/opinions to appreciate him.

Gustavsson has never played in the NHL while Joey Macdonald has proven to be an NHLer. How is it Gustavsson will no doubt be better than Macdonald when he hasn't even played one NHL game? I hope and think Gustavsson will be a good goalie; but until he plays in the NHL he is unproven. SEL success=NHL success? Not necesarilly..

Simply put - because the leafs signed him to play with the leafs. Not the marlies.

Yeah, there is an inherent risk in my saying this that is exactly the point you made. I still think that it's a pretty safe bet that one of the major points brought up for gustavsson when signing is that he'll be with the big club. Of course, if he bombs then all bets are off. Considering the rep sheet on this guy though, it's pretty unlikely.

It's fair to make your kind of statement given that you know a thing or two about gustavsson. For cherry to make your conclusion after saying he doesn't know anything about gustavsson is laughable.
