The Panthers get A young defenseman with Offensive Potential, and A young Center with good Potential.

The Senators get A potntial top 6 forward center

Is the Value way off?

Florida's nonexistent GM hangs up the phone in disgust.

This is gonna get ugly fast. Put your shoes on the other teams feet ,why would Florida do this deal?

Florida's nonexistant GM () would want at the very least Karlsson or Cowen in return for Frolik.

To get an idea of how people will react: when you see the word "Frolik", mentally swap in, say, "Filatov", or "Schenn", or "Hodgson".

I seriously doubt he's going anywhere.

(okay, so that's not entirely fair. Frolik's more proven than Filatov or Hodgson. )

You're trying to trade 3 nickels for a quarter. Frolik is a building block, and you don't move those for a suspect, a 3rd pair d-man & a 1st round DP.

Overall, the value might not be that bad, but you're asking the Panthers to take a significant step back in regards to the on-ice team this year, which would be a no-go from their perspective.

At least chose a new name before such a homer trade proposal...

Alfie for Reasoner + Thorburn + 3rd?

Frolik is = > than Alfie now. Awesome....

It is a horrible proposal....but it did include a 1st rounder...if you listen to most prognosticators to date should place ottawa with a top 10 pick in 2010, so that does carry some value.

Good deal for the Panthers if the pick is top 10. They would probably draft some bum though.

No...it's not.

Horrible deal, Frolik's going nowhere, deal with it.

Would you accept the deal for the Kings if it was Doughty being traded for those assets?

Nope but Frolik will never be as valueable as Doughty. The Sens are a probable top 10 pick so I think that's more than enough for Frolik.

Even I as a hardcore sens fan don't think that enough...
what if the Sens finish 6th in the East (13Ovl) and FLA end up with a 17th pick (+ those 2)...

I said IF it's a top 10 pick. It won't happen but I think the value is there.

What's the success rate for draft picks in the 10-14 range? What percentage of guys that are drafted in that range end up having the type of rookie season that Frolik did? 10-20% would be my guess - but it's just a SWAG. Still, would you buy a 20% chance of getting $10 for $10? I hope not - and it's the same thing in the draft.

This deal is especially bad when you consider that FLA's pretty good on the blueline, and the Sens 2010 1st round wouldn't likely be contributing at the NHL level to 2013 or after. So they'd be trading a guy who they desperately need (skilled top 6 forward) a some spare "bits", and a small chance of drafting a replacement that might be ready 4 years from now.

Must've missed Frolik last season, it's not enough. Frolik's PROVEN he can play in the NHL, a top 10 prospect (which is what a top 10 pick is) hasn't proven anything. How many top 10s don't make it? Or at least don't live up to expectations?

Sure is doing better than I expected after a mediocre World Jr. The value is there but FLA needs him more than a top 10 pick.

Frolik is a very good young player, and not just because he's young

He is a solid 2nd line center (as of right now) on an actually competitive team. He didn't beat out dead beats to get his position, he earned his way to a scoring line for Florida.

But....but....on hfboards picks and prospects are always more valuable than proven NHL players!

As a Sens fan I'd do the deal in a heartbeat, but I'm at a loss why Florida would make that trade.

The value isn't there, not close, actually. Look at what's said below about him. He was kept up early last season even as he struggled a bit, yet showed flashes. DeBoer believed in him and Frolik responded.
