If I didn't dislike the thought of having the Dbag on my team, I'd sign up for this trade. I'm pretty sure our GM and capologist are 42x smarter than me and could make it work. Especially since Luongo hates monies.

I don't personally think that's enough for Heatley.

You have to give up SOMETHING you don't want to in order to make a trade happen.

Demitra & Salo are both nearing the end of their NHL careers and were drafted and let go by Ottawa in years past.

as a Canuck fan, I have ZERO interest in adding Heatley to Vancouver.

The Canucks just now have depth in their lineup, both up front and on defense... they are tight against the cap this year, but have lots of flexibility with salary coming off next year, so they can retain their key players and have the flexibility to retain their key young players over the next few years to maintain that depth.

Heatley changes all that... the Canucks made their choice when they signed the Sedins to $6.1mill/yr each... throw in Luongo's contract, even if he signs at a discount, and you're still allocating almost 50% of your entire cap space on those 4 players - if Heatley was added.

Makes no sense to me... especially when you throw in all the other headaches Heatley brings - at $7.5mill cap hit, he is just not worth it to a team that doesn't tons of flexible (and longterm) cap space to work with.

Simply put, Heatley to Vancouver makes no sense.... I'd rather keep our depth, and let our young players grow around the core already in place!

Salo and Demitra should be looked at as the salary dumps of the trade, not the main pieces.

Say NO to Dany Heatley*!

*Based mostly on his contract and the fact he is a dbag as mentioned.

If Heatly pouted at being asked to take a "reduced role" on the Sens- how the heck is he going to like not being on the 1st line and shoved to the 2nd line with a rookie center?

Canucks can't afford Heatley they would have 4 players tied up at around 26,450,000

Might be able to do a little better, but I think the sens are more in a take what you can get kind of position.

As long as the front end loaded contract Luongo rumour is true I would love to see Heately on the team. His deal is just long enough to cover the rookies that should be on the team anyways.

I can't begin to fathom how many goals he would get scoring with the sedins, it would be a nightmare for defenders trying to figure out how to cover.

And if he decides to be a ********* we know where he lives!

Someone on the sens board posted this one

To Ott: Burns, Demitra + Luko for cap reasons
To Min: Heatley, Bieksa
To Van: PM Bouchard + Lee + Min 1st

We counter with this

OP deal is bad value for Heatley.

However Vancouver has a bright future , I hope for them they stay away from this guy.

Burrows and PM Bouchard on the same team? I don't think that would help the dressing room a lot

He's not coming to Vancouver, get over it. It makes zero sense unless it's something like Demitra and Bieksa for Heatley and Ottawa's 1st, ie. a total ripoff.

Ottawa's first is worth more than Bieksa and Demitra

while that's a rip off in the Canucks favour, I don't see Gillis even picking up the phone to show interest in Heatley.

His cap hit just doesn't make any sense. If Gillis had any interest in Heatley, it was before he committed the longterm salaries to the Sedins... with those salaries, and Gillis committed to continue building this team around Luongo (and hence his spending on defense as well), I don't see him even trying to fit Healtey's contract into the current structure.

This team is set with the pieces in place now... the only change I could see is Sundin coming back at a much reduced contract, and Demitra shipped off to make room... but the core is in place, and there is enough young talent now in the pipeline (on forward at least) to keep building along the same path the team is currently set on.

Heatley forces you to change all that... and I doubt that Gillis would (or should) have any interest in that.

as far as the 3-way trade suggested above... that's a trade I'd do, and I'm not a fan of moving Bieksa out... but if you can get a young dman to replace him in the lineup, along with a 1st rounder, the deal makes sense to me... although after this season, the Canucks can no more carry Bouchard's contract, as they could Demitra's... that money is set aside for Kesler IMO.

Heatley won't bring much in return but this is brutal. 2 injury prone old guys, an avg. young forward, and a late 1st, ouch.
