While we're on the topic of odd nicknames for our Swedish players, I never quite understood why Tedenby is called Taydenboo or Teeta. Is it the way the Swedish announcers say his name? Anyone care to explain?

There's a video of him scoring a goal and the commentator goes nuts, and says somehting (in Swedish) along the lines of "Teeta, teeta, Teydenbooooooo!" I'll try and find the video

It all started with this:

"Teeta teeta Tedenboo" eventually became "Teetaboo".

When Tedenby first got drafted, there was a thread right after and the poster asked what the correct pronounciation was of Mattias' last name. He said something like "What is it, Teden-bee, Taydenboo, etc." It just stuck. Teeta is what they call him in the Swedish version of the youtube video of his nasty assist in the WJC against the Czechs.

EDIT: I meant the one posted above.

I love this post!

It's like a Devils' hockey equivalent of "Small Earthquake in Paraguay. Nobody Hurt."

I posted that thread, over a year ago.

Swedish Devil assured us all it was probably "Tedanbee".

Gunnar Stahl, as a Norwegian, found my suggestion of "Taydenboo" hilarious.

It just went from there. Glad someone has posted Swedish commentary that gives us some idea. Swedes tend to just let people pronounce their names however they like. Bjorn Borg's name has always been pronounced like the Star Trek villain in the English speaking world. He doesn't seem to care. I noticed that Josefson was quite happy to be called "Jaycub Josephsun" or "Yacob Yossefson".

The announcer is saying: "Titta, titta...Tedenby!!"..

It actually doesn't have anything to do with his name, but "titta" means look in English, so he was basically saying "Look, look at that....Tedenby!!"....

I had a feeling what I heard as "teeta" meant something, but my Swedish is somewhat... nonexistent. Thanks for the translation, I'll remember that.

That's a pretty good way to get a nickname in my opinion: you're on the highlight reel with ridiculous moves so much that people start to associate your name with the phrase "look at that!" Nice.

Djurgårdens IF's pre-season is over and Jacob Josefson won the scoring among the team with 11 points in 9 games. 7 goals and 4 assists.

If everything continues like this, expect a huge breakout season.

JJ got a huge advantage over Tedenby, JJ is playing on a crappy team and will get topline minutes while Tedenby is on swedens deepest SEL team and will likely get 3rd line minutes. Maybe Tedenby should had left for NA this season already.

Not bad for a 7th rounder. Big defenseman who is getting PP time, I like it. That being said, it's the BCHL.

Not Sweden's deepest but one of the deepest, yes. Well, Josefson scored all those points versus the best teams in the SEL so I wouldn't say he only got those points because he's on the first line.

you missed my point. I am just saying that Tedenby wont get enough minutes that he deserves.

Hopefully that will help persuade him to come over to New Jersey next year, where we will be happy to give him the ice time he deserves.

he has a clause that says he can join AHL/NHL next year. I am pretty sure he will use it. It makes me mad his talent might be wasted right now. He simply isnt a bottom 6 player, he is flash in the pan that can make the unexpected happen.

Also, Tedenby has always played awesome for the team sweden junior team.

That's almost his entire scoring production last year.

Boy is the hockey world in for a shocker when they realize that they missed this guy.
