Luongo signs 12 years 64M deal

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=289692

Thats a cap hit of 5.3M. Much less than Shawn Horcoff. Still he is 30 already and this will bring him to the old age of 42.

Didn't see it posted anywhere else on the Oilers board.

ughhh great signing. If he retires before it doesnt even go against the cap. These long terms deals everyone calls risky seem to be sweet deals as long a they are signed at 27,28,29

Great deal. A lot less than what I thought it would be. I thought he'd get a 6M cap hit. This is going to help the rest of the team so much down the line.

Horcoff is at 5.5M... not 'Much less', but a good deal for Vancouver nonetheless.

That's a really long term, but I'm sure the Oilers would use this "loophole" as an advantage too if we had a player of that caliber.

Does this really need to turn into another "look at all the ****** Oiler contracts" thread? We've been over it a thousand times, everyone is aware.

Good signing for the Canucks, if they can fill in some holes within the next 2-3 years, they might be able to cause some damage.

So is the league going to investigate this contract like Hossa's since it takes Luongo to 42 years old? Seems pretty much like the same type of deal with both.

Good for the Nucks though...

12 years huh. That's a LONG time. That said, I would love this signing were I a Canucks fan.

Damn, 5.3 for a playoff spot for the next 6+ years. Really good deal for the Canucks.

History has shown that they haven't done much, but I think it has more to do with the core upfront. I like the Luongo signing, but they also set their franchise for the next 6 years with the Sedins. The Sedin-Luongo Duo haven't been able to do much, but it does stabilize there playoff chances every year.

Nice deal for the canucks. I can't wait to see some palyers get to the end of these long deals. Will they really retire? Who knows. I am sure the amounts that Luongo will get in years 10,11 and 12 are just pennies compared to the first 5 years. Nonetheless it will still be interesting to see how things will play out, not only with tihs contract but also with the Pronger contract, the Richards deal, the DiPietro deal and so on.

Anyhow really like the avatar, can't wait for that album.

Not to mention, Alex Burrows. As much as I can't stand him as an opponent, I wish he was an Oiler.

Reminds me of what Glencross could have been...ugh

Choke like they always do? I'm not sure that a team with no expectations is really considered a choke when they loose out in the 2nd round.

I think the only time you can consider them as choking is two seasons ago when they failed to make playoffs.

Burrows is garbage. He won't repeat his goal output ever again. In terms of a pest, I would rather ahve Avery than Burrows.

Been watching hockey long ? Ever since the days of Pavel Bure I've been hearing how this was going to be the year of the whale . I remember hearing it in the nineties when had the so called best line in hockey and the consensus best GM in hockey ... and they didn't win anything then either . Now they have the supposed best goaltender in hockey - actually he's already been there for what three seasons - and they still aren't , and won't be , winning anything . It's destiny .

Well this is getting to be a joke, and yes I am mad cause the oilers aren't in on it, but the NHL needs to make a rule about these types of deals. Does any one really think luongo will play to 42?

It is probably a great deal for the nucks cuase luongo will retire at 40, if he actually plays untill 42 I think it is a bad deal, Lunongo is an amazing goalie, but even the greatest of all time were pretty brutal after 40. the years 41-42 he will be brutal and it pretty much kills that teams chances of winning. however, he won't, he will retire, which is why the NHL needs to step in already.

It should be any deals signed after your 35 stay on the cap and any years past 40 stay on the cap if signed before 35.

Soundwave has finally gotten the soft cap he has asked for!

BTW, he is 43 at the end of this deal not 42.

I just hope the oilers cash in on one deal before the loophole is filled. can we lock up cogs and gagner to 20 year deals? that would be sweet.
