According to Alessandro, Avtsin is not there since he has to participate in a highly publicized opening game of the new MHL. With all the hype about him, including Ovechkin comparissons and media attention - he had another media interview a couple of days ago - I would think he will get at least one of those prep tourneys to show what he can do at this level. Particularly after the team Russia disastrous showing against the US, even though some important players were not there. I remember last year there was barely any mention of Trunev in the media.
In fact, they did, as ridiculous as it might be (see Avtsin thread). May be you would want to pass this message to the Russian media. Good luck!
Just did go back and see the Avtsin thread. There's one post where 1 journalist says "Many talks about Avtsin becoming the Ovechkin". So in reality what does "Many" means. Is it just coming from the journalist's mind? From his friends? Is that coming from the story that started here at the draft?
But in the end, how the hell would you compare a guy to Ovechkin while he's not able to have a regular spot in the KHL even as a 4th liner? And I'm not discrediting Avtsin, I like the kid very much from my reports I did already ond him. But an Ovechkin would have been able to crack a Dynamo lineup as stacked as it is.
Russia U20 coach Plyushev stated in an intrerview that 70% of the team that is playing in the tournament now will be playing at the WJC and that defence is the area in need of improvement the most. And that three five-man units from this team will be called to play in the next tournament.
While Russia has not yet won a game, it is definately a lot more competitive than the team that got blown out of the water by the americans last month. It seems like Trunev has a chance.
