As I said in the "Offseason" Thread....Gross.

I don't even care what the amount of the contract is.

As long as it's not too much money, it's not a bad signing. Certainly not the top 6 forward we were all hoping for but he is really fast which plays into the team speed thing Maloney covets. I would curtail expectations though as his numbers are easily inflated by playing along side the Sedins.

On a side note, I don't think it was ever substantiated but wasn't there a rumor that some dumb ass DJ of one of the valley radio stations supposedly make some crack about his fiance who had recently died in an accident?! Ugh I hope that was never true!

What kind of damage? He's big and fast but he doesn't hit anything and he can't score.

I like the "puckbunnies" comment above, maybe it's a marketing signing.

Most bottom 6 guys aren't going to be elite level talents... He isn't as bad as you paint him and could pan out to be a very solid addition

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

I've noticed that the main gripe about him in Vancouver was that Vignault used him more as a second line, maybe if he stays in the bottom six, it'll be alright. Either way, I'm not expecting much.

At the expense of who?

I don't think more bottom 6 guys was a need but if they really want to go with less kids I guess Tikhonov could also go to S.A.

I was actually worried they might do this. Sucks. I'd rather have Porter or MacLean up here.

Winnik's fight to stay up with the big club just got tougher.

I like the signing. A big body, fast, former 8th overall pick who'll come here without pressure. Good checker, solid defensively and did pot 23 goals three years back. And he's only 28.

Certainly been an underachiever up to now, but I doubt he'll bust our budget.

I don't see how anyone could be upset with this move. People's ridiculously optimistic expectations are really becoming mind-boggling. Everyone needs to try to be a bit more realistic in terms of all of these young guys' "potential". Does anyone honestly think Pyatt wouldn't be better than any of our 12 forwards? Last year was obviously extremely difficult for him, so I will base my expectations on his previous two. He averaged 20 goals and nearly 40 points. That and he can play the PP and PK, and is actually a very good fighter on the rare occasions that he does. Of this team's returning players, Doan is the only one who was more productive last year than what Pyatt averaged in '07 and '08.

Pyatt during those years played with the Sedin's. I wouldn't expect him to come close to matching those totals in PHX, with anyone. I'm not a big fan of the signing.

After last year I think DM is pretty committed to kids cutting their teeth on the farm. I wouldn't mind Porter up here but at the same time it would be nice to see these kids do some damage in the AHL before they play in the NHL.

lol...something like that I guess but yeah if that's true I would have absolutely no qualms slapping that dude around at all!

I don't like the fit. I'd have been thrilled with Dom Moore or Mike Comrie. I wanted to see Hanzal get a shot at the top six. I think he and Mueller would be a great fit, together. That can't happen now, because we don't have enough centers. Mueller will now be a center. I don't like him in that role one bit. Pyatt just took a job from one of Turris or Tikhonov. Probably Turris. The line-up just looks thrown together, no matter how you arrange it. I don't like it, at all. If it was going to be a cheap UFA, I would've wanted Comrie to center the third line and chip in more scoring or Moore to center the third line and chip in more D. I just didn't want some bottom six winger. We have more than enough of those. He's just a generic banger. No upside there, really.

Pyatt has always had such high potential but he's never come close to achieving it. I don't see that trend ending anytime soon.

He's got size but isn't overly physical and has very average speed at best. He doesn't play with particular passion either but every now and then will have a multi-point game that gets your hopes up.

His signing reminds me of a scene in Oceans 11 between George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

Ten should do it, don't you think?
(as Rusty shrugs)
You think we need one more?

Okay. We'll get one more.

I'm guessing now it's:

Doan - Mueller - Boedker
Upshall - Lombardi - Prucha
Pyatt - Hanzal - Vrbata
Korpikoski - Fiddler - Tikhonov

or

Doan - Mueller - Vrbata
Upshall - Lombardi - Prucha
Pyatt - Hanzal - Boedker
Korpikoski - Fiddler - Tikhonov

Mish mash of random. Of course, who knows what happens when it actually hits the ice. On paper, though, it just looks like nonsense. Anyway, it should be a speedy, hard working bunch. Almost certainly another top ten pick is in the cards, but I think we'll all be less frustrated by this bunch than we were by last season's squad. Pyatt is yet another guy that hustles, and back checks. Add him to Upshall, Lombardi, Prucha, Korpikoski, and Fiddler as recent additions that also fit that bill, and even though we may end up with more losses, this year, at least we'll have less headaches and gripe fests. Really, the only two forwards that could ever be accused of sometimes being passengers are Mueller and Vrbata(though, less frequently, than Pete). If Mueller is really serious about coming into this season motivated, this is going to be an extremely hard working team.

He is a better player than many of you may think. The Vancouver Canuck fans were overly harsh on him....well, those who didn't really follow hockey but rather just stats. He uses his big body well and is a great role player and can skate extremely well for a big guy.

He went through one of the most painful personal situations anyone can and I bet he comes to Phoenix with a new passion about hockey as he rebuilds his life. This is a good signing and I bet many Coyotes fans will be wondering how Vancouver was so foolish to let him slip away.

Well, I do hope so. Not just for our sake, either, but for his. I can't imagine what he had to go through. He is owed some good extra good luck and success.
